Preeclampsia again and pregnancy

Hi,

I had severe preeclampsia with twin boys at 32 weeks 5 days. It hit very hard after delivery with my blood pressure spiking at 200/110. I was in the ER for over a week after delivery. Fast forward 4 years later: I got pregnant naturally three months ago (the first time was with invitro) and I was advised by my doctor to terminate the pregnancy because I almost had a stroke the first time around. Needless to say, I was devastated, but took his advice. He told me after the procedure that he felt strongly I had made the right decision. I'm not so sure and feel guilt every day, especially since I would really like to have a third child. Are there any studies out there that are looking into a cure? I am almost 37 and feel time is running out. Is there nothing I can do? I am open to adoption but would like to make sure having a natural birth isn't an option for me.

Welcome, I'm so sorry you faced pre-eclampsia in your first pregnancy. While no one has a crystal ball to predict the outcome of a subsequent pregnancy if your desire is to have another pregnancy I would search around another MFM (high risk doc) who can review your unique history and if it's your wish- chart a course for a future pregnancy- and you might seek a few different opinions.

Take good care,
Lauren

Welcome - I'm glad that you've found us. I agree with Lauren; I would also seek a consult with a team of maternal-fetal medicine specialists to hear how a potential pregnancy would be managed given your history.

Geographics are more challenging than I'd like with this condition - we've had posters in rural Wyoming who moved to Denver for the duration of a pregnancy to be close to specialists - but here is a link to help you look for a doc or a team of docs close to you: http://www.smfm.org (I find searching by state helpful.)
