Preeclampsia

Postby guleria84 » Thu Apr 17, 2014 10:19 am

Heloo All,

During May, 2012 my wife was pregnant for second time and was in her 25 week (first time, abortion in 3rd month due to stress) . She had severe preeclampsia. She did not develop eclampsia/HELLP syndrome but just got high blood pressure, swelling, and protein in the urine. Due to uncontrolled blood pressure and to save mother we had to abort our baby.

Now its been 1 year and we are planning for next pregnancy. Precautionary we have done all the medical test and reports are ok (blood pressure is normal). We don't know what are changes for a successful pregnancy/delivery this time and what are the precautions we have to take.
My wife age is 29 years, height 5'2' and 58 kg.

Please suggest !!!

Welcome to the forums. I'm sorry for what you and your wife have suffered due to preeclampsia.

Here is a link giving some general odds of re-occurrence: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=331

Some of our posters have seen a MFM (Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist) pre-conception to test for underlying disorders and talk about how any subsequent pregnancies should be managed. Unfortunately we don't have a way to prevent preeclampsia yet, though treatment of some underlying medical conditions may help reduce risk in some individual cases.
The odds for subsequent pregnancies tend to be a little better, maybe because subsequent pregnancies can take advantage of some of the work done by a previous pregnancy in uterine spiral artery remodeling.

You could also talk to her docs about the possibility of taking low dose aspirin: http://www.preeclampsia.org/women-encou ... -providers

I hope this helps answers your questions somewhat. If not please keep the questions coming!
