I'm glad your thyroid is being checked frequently during pregnancy. Good luck and let us know how your next appointment goes.

I have my thyroid checked every 4 weeks. I am very vocal about keeping on top of that. It messes with the pregnancy and it messes with my breast milk supply. Plus, my thyroid swings very wildly from extreme hyper to extreme hypo within a week or two. So we have to stay on top of it.

I am going to ask for another 24 hour urine test next week at my OB appt. I test my urine every morning here at home and it is now showing a little bili along with fluctuating protein levels in the morning.

Hi I also have hypothyroidism, and had chronic hypertension (and later gestational diabetes) in my latest pregnancy. My OB would run a 24 hour urine every time my symptoms changed, like if my pressures started trending up. Or I had a severe migraine.

I didn't have any epigastric symptoms though (other than some mild nausea when my blood sugar was a lil' low, and eating small frequent meals helped with that) and my pressures didn't become severely high, so they didn't run bloodwork to check for HELLP this last pregnancy.

How often are your thyroid levels being checked? Labatelol is very commonly used during pregnancy, but i was always a lil' nervous to try a beta blocker since they can inhibit conversion of T4 to T3 (the more biologically active form of thyroid hormone), and I didn't want to risk having to tweak my thyroid dose more than usual.

I would also ask for a referral to a MFM since you may be at higher risk for pre-e.

I'm having more bp readings in the lower end that is 120s/70s. Still have a couple that are 140s/80s but even with those being not any higher I feel good. Today I did get a 155/74 reading. I still get the random times when my vision goes really blurry and I can't even read things 4 feet in front of me. I've got a cold right now so that isn't fun on top of this. No fever. Thanks for asking! Next week I have 3 appointments. My endo for my thyroid (I have Hashimotos), the clinic that deals with gestational diabetes (this is my 3rd pregnancy with it), and my OB appt.

I do have a question for y'all. How often should the blood labs and 24 hour urine be checked?

Dr called back with the results from my 24hr urine.
She says they're totally normal and I'm doing good. When I asked for numbers she said my Creatinine is 84 and my protein is 154.

I also asked to increase my bp meds to 3 times a day and she gave the okay. My readings are jumping up into the 150s but the bottom number is still in the 80s. So now I'm taking Labetalol 100 3 times a day. I hope that works. I've noticed that my headaches are directly related to my bottom number. The higher it rises in the 80s the worse it gets. So far, I have not had it tip into the 90s. I've only gotten as high as 89 so I'm taking that as a good sign.

Your doc. might increase the BP medication if there is no change. Wait for your results for the urine to come in. If there is any protein, the common thing to do is to send you to MFM and monitor you and baby more closely and try to get you to at least 38 weeks. If at any time you feel your doctor isn't being as proactive as you feel they should, I would seek another opinion. Hope things turn around for you.

Bp meds were started and only minimal change. Fioricet was prescribed for the headaches and its still getting worse. Fioricet isn't working at all. Blood work in L&D came back looking normal. 24 hour urine starts tomorrow. No referral to MFM and all my symptoms were told were unrelated and are common pregnancy symptoms. Except the upper right belly tenderness. That she told me I "didn't want to have" like that would make the pain suddenly disappear?

I assume it would all depend on the results from your blood panel and urinalysis, since your blood pressure does seem higher then what is wanted but not in the danger zone. Your OB is likely to have you start seeing an MFM specialist, and may have you come in for monitoring every 2 weeks instead of every 4. You may be put on BP medication and a low dose of aspirin to help with the BP. If anything alarming comes up in your labs, they may have you stay at the hospital on bedrest until your baby has developed more for an early delivery. Best wishes.

What am I looking at here?

Postby lynda.king-larson » Wed Oct 14, 2015 10:12 pm

I'm currently 22 1/2 weeks. (I have my appt tomorrow for the start of blood work and 24 hour urine.)
Since last week when all of this started, I've had a pretty constant headache that doesn't go away. Nausea started same time. If I eat it gets worse. Two days ago, the top of my belly was tender. Yesterday I had an episode where by vision went completely blurry for 5-10 minutes. I had flurries in my vision the day before. I bought a blood pressure cuff and a bottle of the 10 test urine strips also. Since last Wednesday I've had two readings over 140. Most the others are over 130/80s. My urine strip tests are showing protein consistently at every test at 0.3+. This morning it showed it was getting darker but not quite to 1.0+. I'm only 22 weeks. What am I looking at here? Am I overreacting?
