Hi, and welcome to the forums.

Unfortunately though we know general odds for re-occurence after a first pregnancy with pre-e, we don't know as much about those who have had pre-e twice. (since we are less common)

I wasn't as scared having a second pregnancy, since I knew my odds of re-occurence were low having had pre-e at term. It took me longer to be ok with having a third. I basically assumed the worst, that I would get pre-e again. I knew I would have more frequent appointments and ultrasounds, and would be watched very closely, so that even if pre-e hit again my odds of being permanment injured by pregnancy were comparatively low (compared to walking to work every day). Though if I had a history of micro-preemies or even PTSD I might have decided differently.

Now having said that, even though I would up with pre-e again in a third pregnancy, I'm so glad I decided to try again. I can't imagine my family any other way now. My cardiologist and OB were supportive, though my GP was suggesting I should quite while I was ahead (with two healthy kiddos). I mainly saw my OB during pregnancy, but I also had a MFM (Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist) lined up as backup as needed.

Have you ever been tested for possible underlying disorders? Some of our posters have seen MFM (maternal fetal medicine specialists) for a pre-conception appointment, to talk about testing and to get a better idea of their individual odds of re-occurence.

Hi everyone,

We are talking about having another baby, and our time is running out. I'm just really scared. None of my pregnancies have been normal. We lost our first baby at 20 wks to Turner's Syndrome. I was borderline PE with my second baby and had her via emergency C-section at 36 weeks. I just had my third baby last November. I had PE with him and delivered via emergency C-section just shy of 35 weeks. With my second delivery, everything was relatively ok afterwards. She did not go into the NICU. She was in my room, and we were able to bond and breastfeed. With my son, it was a nightmare. He was admitted to the NICU because of a policy, not because he needed it. Had he been born 2 days later, he would not have gone. I was also given Magnesium Sulfate and told I could not see him for 24 hours. No one ever told me that would happen or was even a possibility! The NICU was very anti-breast feeding. I had to fight a battle every time there was a shift change with the nurses. It was an awful and traumatic experience with repercussions that we're still dealing with 11 months later. It is enough that I fear another pregnancy. I am scared of a repeat situation. However, we really do want another child. I'm hoping to learn more on this forum, so I am better prepared. Thanks for reading.
