I think that if you get a dip, then its just suppose to rise back up to your normal baseline. I would not assume that yours is going to start rising if you never a got a dip in the first place. It will be interesting to get your doctor's view about it. Let us know!

No dip. Just normal and then higher. Unless it dipped in between appts, but I was checking it at home and didn't notice any dip.

Hi Lisa,

Not everybody gets a bp dip in the 2nd trimester, so if your bp never went down then maybe it won't go back up.

Do you know if you had a dip?

Thanks ladies, now I'm worried. Oh well. If my BP takes a jump at 28 weeks, I'm gonna be in the hospital or on bedrest. I'm already at borderline levels as I've been for the past month. Just started showing trace protein on my home dipsticks. I can't afford a spike.

It seems like mine went up right at 29 weeks with my 1st and 3rd ( never really went up with my 2nd) Of course with my first it went up to hypertensive levels and I ended up with PE, with my 3rd it jumped up but was only borderline hypertensive and it never got hypertensive levels until the week I delivered ( I was delivered at 37 weeks for oligo) but the BP was high that week too. Luckily no protien but I bet it would have been there within another week or so ;)

Hi April--

I'm just about 28 wks, andI'm starting to get a rise in bp as well . I had a nice dip w/readings about 100/65. Now its creeping up to 110-120/70-80. My doctor said this usually happens around wk 26-28. I'm not too concerned because this is a normal course in pg.

I also pay attention to how I feel. Last time I got pre-e, I started to feel sick even before bp went up.

Take Care

I've also just had a BP rise (115/70 to 135/85), which coincided with going from trace protein to 1+, so the dr immediately ran a full blood screen to check on platelets, liver and kidney. Since the blood test was fine she said let's check your BP every few days and dip your urine but if you feel ANY change then come on in for another full blood screen. Otherwise she's letting me go 2 weeks between appointments.
I would suggest getting platelets and everything checked just in case. As we're aware the change for the worse can be sudden. Having said that the rise in itself assuming it's still not really high just means to watch carefully. Good luck

That's the big question though, isn't it? If we're going to be ill again, or whether we can ride it out. I don't think there's an answer, frankly - but I feel better knowing what my warning numbers are.

When's your next appointment? I'd make sure your Dr knows your concerns and that they discuss how they plan to manage your pressures.

Take care.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am 29wks and I am noticing my bp going up some. In my 2nd trimester is was normally around 90s/60s. And I geuss around 22 or 23wks it started going up to about 100s-110/70s. Now that I am 29wks it is more on the lines of 115-120s/70-80s. And I don't know if it is going to continue to go up or if it is going to level off. It is just so scary.

I can't answer the specifics, but yes, it is normal for a rise in BP in the third trimester, following the second trimester dip.

I discussed this with my OB today and he gave me a reading at which I was to call him, and another which would warrant a trip to L&D.

Have you noticed yours going up?
