Update: Reasons for loss..

Just wanted to give everyone an update, last night Heathers OB called saying they got the results back from the tests and autopsy so they wanted us in 7am this morning.. As much as I wanted to find out what happened, I didnt realize how hard it would be to hear.. Everything we have told ourselves to help "deal" with this was wrong. We tried to accept that something was wrong and that Shane would have suffered threw life; there was absolutly nothing wrong at all. He was in perfict health and perfictly developed for 28 weeks. All they can figure now is that there was some sort of plecenta abnormality, most likely blood clotting.. At least our little angle didnt suffer any.. [V]

I am so sorry that this news has made it harder. Unfortuantely, with pre-e, many times, the baby is fine, but the placenta fails to deliver the neccesary nutrients and oxygen to the baby...due to the clots or abnormalities. My thoughts are with you all.

Craig,

I am so sorry for the results you had gotten. It's so hard when we lose a child that we want the answers in stone and when there really is no answer we are left speachless and more hurt.

Did the doctor give you the results of the pathology report of the placenta?. If not, that would be my next step to get a copy of that report.

How is your wife? Please let her know that we are here for her also. Suffering a loss of a child is a feeling I wish no one had to indure. But, let her know that there is a wonderful support group here that she (and you) can feel free to talk about Shane any time.

Craig - I am so sorry for Heather and your loss of Shane. It is just such a terrible thing. Know that there are others you have had your same experience, this is a great place to do that. There are also many support groups out there, if that is for you - the SHARE website is a great place to start. Also your hospital may be able to help too. HUGS to you both, I wish you peace as you continue this hard journey.

Craig,

A pathology exam is done on each and every placenta after child birth. Then a report is made of the condition,shape, and weight. It would be able to tell you if the placenta was still working when Shane was born or if it was damaged. It's important to have this report as it may hold the key as to why. To get a copy of this report it would be at the hospital and also your doctor should get a copy of the report....

Craig I am so sorry but also happy with you that it appears that Shane was not in any pain. Hugs to Heather as well. My son was also born at 28 weeks but lived (in NICU) for 28 days. Sometimes as I watched him grimace every now and then and was UTTERLY helpless to help him, I wondered, was this REALLY the best place for him, was my womb really that much a threat to his life? These are the questions I live with.

Thank you, guys, for mentioning the pathology report. I assume they have to do it hear in South Africa as well and will look into it.
