recurrent miscarriage after stillbirth

Not a post I was hoping to ever make, but I now think I have started my 2nd miscarriage after losing Alice. I am bleeding quite persistently, though not yet heavily, and all my pregnancy symptoms have suddenly just disappeared. Even trying to be optimistic & positive these are hardly promising symptoms!

I am around 5+4 so another very early loss.

Has anyone on these boards been through recurrent miscarriage after early onset PE? I am just wondering really if they had any further investigations done, or whether it is really now time for me to call it a day and try to get on with the rest of my life...

Anyhow would be grateful for any advice, even if its just someone to talk with who has been through the same ....

Thanks xx

Jules, I am so sorry.

I have no advice, as I suffered an early loss prior to PE with my second.

Did you have testing for underlying conditions after losing Alice? How long is your LP? Do you think it could be your progesterone levels?

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Jules, I'm so sorry. I'm crossing my fingers that it's not over yet.

I think low progesterone levels are one of the most common causes of early miscarriage. If this does turn out to be a miscarriage, I would say that definitely if you decide to try again that you should go on progesterone after ovulation. (And progesterone is something that wouldn't necessarily be tested in underlying condition tests after PE but is linked to m/c.)

I think repeat loss testing and/or even seeing a fertility specialist is certainly a good idea.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Jules, I'm sorry you're going through this. Do you think you can get in to see your OB tomorrow for an early u/s? After I lost Addison, I got pregnant 3 months later and had an early miscarriage. Three months after the m/c I got pregnant again and had spotting around 5w4d. I thought I was having another miscarriage, so I went in for an u/s the next day and everything was fine. I had spotting until 9 weeks, before it finally stopped. I know after all you've been through it is hard to be optimistic in this situation, but I just wanted to let you know there is hope.

If it does turn out to be a miscarriage, I recommend seeing an RE for repeat pregnancy loss testing as well as other lab work such as progesterone. The RE's are much more experienced with this than OB's. I know things are different in the UK, but typically in the US an OB will give you a referral after 6 months of TTC if you're over 35.

Thanks - its getting worse, as I thought it would, and definitely another miscarriage. Its hard not to wonder "why me" sometimes? Haven't I been through enough already?, I mean give me a break here!!!

As far as I know my LP is normal - I certainly have very average length cycles and according to FF always ov between days 13-15, so again very average. I will think about further testing but suspect there will be no explanation found. Maybe my body just wants to sabotage pregnancy early on to stop me nearly dying again, I mean that would be kind of sensible?

Jules,

Do get it checked out-- it's possible to bleed quite a bit without a miscarriage, so even though you may well be right, do see your doctor. Okay?

I had severe early onset pree (resulting in the death of our daughter), followed by what were eventually 5 miscarriages. Please feel free to message me privately, if I can help. In my case, although they strongly suspect autoimmune disease that isn't yet detectable, they were never able to find an underlying cause. We're now pursuing adoption.

I've met many women who seem to have both pree and miscarriages, and I don't know if this makes you feel better, but I seem to be one of the very unlucky few who can't seem to get past 10 weeks after the preeclamptic pregnancy. Most do find their way through.

I'm happy to answer any questions I can about the kinds of tests they did, and what I found from the research.

I'm sorry for everything, and I hope you get resolution quickly.

Jules,

Sorry to hear this :(

I did think I heard once - but I can't find a study - that miscarriage can be more common up to a year after a traumatic pregnancy event - PE wasn't specified - but I think it definitely is a traumatic pregnancy on the body all right.

I hope you get some answers and it sounds like Cheryl had lots of info to share.

Hugs to you- Jamie
