Thanks everyone! I feel I know what to do better at this point. I am going in on Monday for my first appointment with my ob here.I will ask her for a referral and I have found a great peri I have had three people refer him in the past day--all the same. So he must be awesome. They love him. Anyway, if she does not deem it necesary I will move to a doctor in the next town. Oh I am in the Hill Country in Texas next to SA. Thanks again!I am so glad I found this site. I looked at it when I had my daughter but never did the forum. IT was four years ago. This is a HUGE help!!!! Thanks!!

I agree with everyone else that you should see a Peri as soon as possible because PE can progress very quickly.

Have you called a peri/MFM office? I know that mine offered pre-pregnancy consults. I don't know if that is standard or not. With your history, I would definitely want an OB that would work with someone else, too. I know I had one prior that said she would refer me if necessary so I switched to one that sent me to the MFM office at 8 weeks for an initial visit. After last time, I was worried that referring me only if something looked off might mean it was too late to do anything to buy me some additional time.

Hi, Rebecca! I'm in Knoxville; are you anywhere near here? If so, I would be happy to give you the name of my peri's office (they were *SO* wonderful and thorough). I can also pass along the name of another high risk outfit in town if you like. You can click on my username above the photo and send me an email should you want that information! (We have some posters in the Memphis and Nashville areas as well!)

Like the others, I was told I didn't need to be referred. So I contacted a peri on my own and the rest is history [:)]. I went in for a preconception appt and had the gamut of tests run before deciding to go for it. They handled my entire pregnancy including delivery, but they also comanage with your current OB should you prefer that route.

Welcome, again!

Ditto above. With your history, I would definitely recommend being seen by a peri/MFM along with your OB. The fact that your OB practice is saying to not do that would worry me along with them saying you HAVE to rotate. I didn't have to rotate and my OB was fine with that. It has been so great to see the same doc the whole 9 months.

You *may* have to go to a practice in the city near you to get better care. But... the drive will be worth it for piece of mind b/c a pregnancy after a pre-e is SO stressful.

I had pe in two of my pregnancies. My first OB did not refer me to a peri. and I did not get pe again until 9 pregnancies later. This current pregnancy my OB was fine with monitoring my bp meds. for chronic hypertension. I was sent to a MFM doctor when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and he now oversees that, my bp, ultrasounds, and any labwork needed related to pe. You might want to check with your insurance to see if you need a referral to a MFM to see one. Also, some insurances (like HMO's) discourage drs. from referring patients to specialists so that may factor in when a dr. doesn't want to give a referral before there are any clear cut problems.

I have heard many docs say what yours said, but i know for me, if we do do the pregnancy thing again, I will want to see a Peri from the beginning. At least so that my OB is consulting with one. My OB's consulted with a Peri in another city that I had never seen and I felt that a great deal was lost in translation so to speak since I did not have contact with him myself. You did great making it a long time on bedrest, but I would not feel comfortable having that early onset and not seein a peri the second time around.... that's just me though. Whatever you do, I would definitly think you would be monitored more closely since you had early onset PE last time

doctor?

Postby rwm » Thu Nov 04, 638286 4:56 pm

Hi ladies! I am new here. I am so glad to have this site.I had pe with my first preg. My doctor found it about 20 weeks. I was put on strict bed rest with for three months and had her 3 1/2 weeks early since my bp hit 205/90. It was tough as I know you all understand.I am not pg again and very excited but scared.I am new in my town and trying to find a good doc. When I call the office and ask about what to do as far as getting a peri they said it was not necc. until I had it. Is this true or should I insist on starting off with one as well so I can be careful and get the extra care I feel I need. Please help! I am also in a practice that insist on me seeing all 5 of the obs in the practice. There is not much to choose from since I am in a smaller town but live 45 mins to a big city. There is a nice hospital here in town and would like to stay here and find a doc. So what do you think? Where do I start? Thanks for all your help!
