Waiting for the other shoe to drop...

I am 28 weeks, 4 days pregnant.
5 years ago I developed severe pre-e at 34 weeks.
After an emergency c-section,6 days later I was lucky to be home with my healthy 4 pound daughter.
This time , I was careful.I started prenates and folic acid 3 months prior to trying to concieve. Still, I had a miscarriage. I had 11 blood tests done to check for possible problems- none found. I lost 20 pounds. We concieved again right away. So far, all looks well. 25 pounds weight gain, good BP's, all tests are good. Still, I can't shake this feeling of impending doom! Anyone else feel this way? How do you deal with it?

Naome, if you read around, we all feel that way! There really is no way to get rid of the fear other than getting through the pregnancy and getting a baby to take home in the end. And even then you will worry about the next time (whether you plan to have more children or are worrying about an *accident*)!

The best way to get AROUND the fear is to watch closely, try to enjoy yourself while you can, be sure you have quality medical care, and to set milestones or goals (weekly, etc) that you can pass off and feel a sense of satisfaction in.

Glad things are going well!

I think it's very normal for all of us to feel like we are walking on eggshells.

Dealing with it has been hard for me, this is the week that my daugther stopped growing I have been very busy counting this kick and that kick. I have a count down board with many goals on it. My first goal is making it pass 25 weeks, then my next is to 28 weeks then to 32 and finally to 35 (which is 12 weeks away tomorrow!) so little by little I'm getting there and I have to keep telling myself I know the signs, I know what to look for, I know the doctors number is on speed dial.

Glad everything is going well for you...

For me the trick has been to be totally proactive and have a OB that is as well. Being well educated about this disease has helped me as well - it doesn't scare me, it helps me to feel in control. Your feelings are very normal. Take care.

Catherine-
I was going to ask you- if you don't mind. Since we are due within a few weeks of eachother- I was just wondering how BIG you were. My belly is the size I was when I delivered my 1st daugheter at 34 weeks. I know this b/c I'm wearing the clothes I wore at that time- and they are tight!!

I have heard that it is common to show sooner- be bigger in 2nd pregnancies- but I just wanted to know if you are experiencing the same.

I'm only 25 weeks pregnant.

Naome-
This website is helping me deal with the fear of "what if". I know that any scares, any questions, any venting I need to do-I can come here. This website has made me very active in this pregnancy regarding my medical care. I know the signs-and I now know that severe headaches, racing pulse, and edema are NOT always due to being pregnant-they are/can be signs of horrible things to come. I wish you the best of luck. Congrats on making it this far without any complications, you give me hope.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.
I do have a GREAT doctor and a peri working together.
I am glad I know the signs this time, last time it came from nowhere and I knew nothing about pre-e. I am watching myself closely, but that contributes to the anxiety, making the days seem longer! Always checking the TP when I use the restroom, always checking for swelling, monitoring each morsel of food. These are things I would not normally do and put me on a heightened sense of alert.
As far as my size, people keep saying I am small! This drives me batty! My husband says they mean it as a compliment, but I keep thinking of how small Jess looked at 4 pounds.[ no heiny whatsoever!] I am 5'10, so I guess that is why they say that.
Anyway, here's to all of us making it to full term and bringing home healthy bundles of joy!

Hi, I am right there with you. I have had a few high bp readings but overall things are holding right now. I dont think the worries will stop until this baby is here safe and sound. I guess that is pretty normal for us though.

Amanda,

I kind-of answered this in the bedrest forum. I started this pregnancy bigger than my last, so it is a bit harder to tell. I haven't gained much weight (if any since I lost early on) but feel big, personally. I measure about 2 weeks bigger now by fundal height. So, I honestly don't know!

I am preg w/ #2, and have lost 20 pounds.
My Belly is bigger and filled up w/ more baby than I have ever felt before.

I know your feelings and am right there w/ you.

Hang in there!
Yesterday, I beat the mark, by going longer than the day my baby Bella was induced.

I have a great group of doc's that test me regularly for just about everything.
I feel great, and very confident.
But check out my posts from a few weeks back...
and you'll see a much different version of me:)

Love,Jennifer
