It took 6 days for my milk to come in when my DD was in the NICU. I think a traumatic birth experience, prematurity, and mag can all slow the milk transition.

Have you pumped next to the babies isoletes? Sometimes looking at you babies help the milk come in....or drinking a beer;)

The NICU is tough! I remember bawling my eyes out the day I was discharged from the hospital and arriving home without Jacob was even harder! My best advice is to take care of yourself. Your body has been through a lot these past few years. I always skipped the middle of the night pumping session because my sleep was more important and I never noticed a huge difference in my supply. I think your boys will be home well before their due date - enjoy your sleep while you can :-)!

Thanks so much for the updates!! Glad they are both doing so well. :) Ali loved the bili lights. She had trouble keeping her temp up so I think it was relaxing for her to bask & "bake" under the warm lights. And she lost more than they like for babies to lose but they attibuted it to the jaundice & lights too.
Good luck with pumping. Take care of yourself mama!!

I called the ISCU last night before going to bed. Both Adam and Noah gained weight!!!!! Can't remember the exact #'s, but I do remember that Noah is back up to his birthweight of 905 grams. Woo hoo! He weighs a little bit more than his brother.

Slept ALL night without getting up to pump. I woke up at 5:30 for labetalol (think I need it upped again) and 6:30 to pump. Will speak with a lactation consultant today. I only got 10ml out of one breast, and I don't feel engorged yet at all...It's been 6 days.

Dara I can just imagine what you are going through. Mikey was almost a 30 weeker and didn't do as well as your two with the breathing thing. I also had a c-section. Because my BP was so high for awhile, and I couldn't drive, my mom would bring me for the 11pm feeding, pump, 2pm feeding, pump, go home eat dinner and back for the 8pm feeding. Once I could drive I would go there for the 8am and then just stay until after the 8pm but you have to make sure that you are doing okay also. My almost 30 weeker was in the hosptial for 6 weeks and 5 days. So that would put him at 36 weeks and 4 days when he could come home. His main issues after breathing was keeping his temps up.

Keep up the updates but we understand if you are busy!!

YOU ROCK MAMA!!! Look at you! and look at those boys!!!

Thank you for stopping by long enough to update us. I only dealt with the NICU for 8 days (Henry was a 34-weeker) but it nearly destroyed me emotionally. I was obsessive about being there with him all the time. In retrospect, I see that it was too much - for me.

My only NICU advice - do as much as you feel comfortable doing and do NOT feel guilty if you can't make it there. It is very important that those boys have a healthy mama. (I ended up with pretty severe PPD within a few months of delivery and took me nearly 2 years to recover.)

Henry also loved the bili lights! Just like your Adam, he was chillin' under the sun! Legs crossed, arms behind his head ... do take a picture! We thought we had but found out later we didn't! And DH drew eyes on his eye covering - kinda freaked out the nurses, but added a bit of laughter to our stressful days.

Girl - you really do rock. Have faith in yourself and have faith in your boys. You've made it this far, and I can't help but feel deep inside that Aaron is hanging out with his brothers.

Oh - one more piece of advice - buy yourself a hands-free nursing bra. It is a lifesaver for pumping - I sent mine to a friend who recently delivered twins and she has said without it she would have given up a long time ago. Here's a link: http://www.easyexpressionproducts.com/

It sounds like they are doing great!!!! Congrats... My son was also born at 30 weeks and leaving him in the NICU was one of the hardest things I've ever done...I would defiantly ask your neighbor to give you a ride there, i always said that when i got there i felt like i could finally breath...and yes, i do believe they will be home most likely earlier than their due dates My son was born on Oct 5th and came home on Nov. 17th but was due on Dec. 12th...I know its hard but try to take this time also to get your rest (as much as possible) and keep yourself healthy because that is going to be very important to your babies...also i don't know if your NICU has a lactation specialist or not but, mine did and she told me that at night that sometimes your sleep is more important than pumping and said it would not hurt to go a little longer at night in between pumps and just get rest, so you may want to talk to them if there is one there. My heart is with you, it hasn't been that long since i was in your shoes and i cried every night when i had to leave the hospital and every time i pumped at home i cried the entire time, because it was such a reminder of him not being there with me. I promise this too will pass soon and you will have your precious babies at home with you.

I LOVED your update... Grow, babies grow!!! I am so happy that Noah and Adam are doing so well. God has truly blessed your family... I love the rock solid biblical names that you chose for the boys... Keep us updated when you can, we all know how hectic the NICU rollercoaster ride is. Many prayers and hugs coming your way ~ Lynne
