Should I ask to see a Perinatologist?

Postby apdrewes83 » Fri Mar 30, 2012 02:21 pm

Hi everyone, my name is Abbey and I'm 23+5 weeks pregnant with my third child. I had preeclampsia and HELLP with my first two which resulted in emergency inductions at 36 weeks each. This pregnancy since about 20 weeks my blood pressure has been elevated anywhere between 140/90 and 180/100, but never normal. I've been sent to L&D twice for monitoring, 24 urine, etc. But my doctor has not recommended meds, bedrest, or ANYTHING to treat my BP and impending pre-e. I literally feel like a ticking time bomb, and am scared because I not only have to worry about myself and my unborn baby, but also my two kids and husband at home. My doctor told me that my family doctor should treat my BP as it is probably chronic HTN (i literally never had HTN problems ever in my life.) I'm so frustrated, any advice?? Thanks girls!!

I would absolutely request seeing an MFM... today. 180/100!? That is scary.

If you do have to go back to L&D, I would also choose a hospital that has MFM on staff and request to be evaluated by them.

I agree, I would get to an MFM asap with those pressures! I would also ignore the doc and put myself on bedrest until you get to see a Dr. qualified to deal with the risks. Good luck!

Our first child, Peyton Mark, was born sleeping at 33 weeks on Oct. 25th 2011. Developed pre-e at 32 weeks.
Pregnant again with what I pray is our rainbow baby, due Oct. 14th 2012. Will induce labor no later than 38 weeks if we make it that far!

I agree with the others. With your symptoms (this is very high BP) and history of PE, you should see an MFM as soon as possible.
