Numb Fingers

Postby holly3372@msn.com » Wed Sep 19, 2012 09:07 am

Hi all. I have noticed the last few nights my fingers going numb. This has happened only late at night. At 1st I thought it was just during sleep as I have woken up with them numb and tingly which is common when laying on your side crushing your arm etc but last night after one of my many trips to the bathroom I couldn't get back to sleep. I decided to watch a little tv and noticed my fingers had that numb tingly feeling again, while awake! After a while and some rubbing it stopped. I emailed my doc for his thoughts and was wondering if any of you had any as well? I did check my Bp it was 99/72 and did a urine dipstick which was also fine. Thanks

I had this around 20 wks in my 2nd prg, about 30 wks this time, my friend had carpal tunnel syndrome during preg and had a similar symptom. In my case, my MFM thought it was swelling in my hands, and this time that's definitely the case.

Could be the start of carpal tunnel, but if you notice swelling anywhere else at all, *I'd ask for a 24 hour urine*--(okay, maybe not in your case since I just remembered, you just did one, right? Maybe in another week or two if it keeps happening and you feel swollen). I recently dipped +1 and clear in the same day, but did a 24 hour urine because of the +1 earlier in the day, and turned out I was spilling 700 mg of protein when I did my 24 hour urine the next day.

It sounds to me like carpaltunnel. I have had this since my first trimester and I received some wristbands from the occupational therapist to stablize my wrists at night. If you work a lot with your hands (e.g. computer) it might aggrevate it. It is a common pregnancy complaint and happens, since your increased fluid volume puts pressure on your nerves in your wrists. It usually goes away after pregnancy. However, pay attention to your hands swelling, as angieb mentioned, please report to your doctor, so you can get checked.

My fingers, hands, and arms fall asleep a lot in bed. My fingers fell asleep today just talking on the phone with my sister today. It's pretty common in pregnancy. Your circulation changes so much, even in a normal pregnancy. Things swell and spread and other things get pinched and scrunched. If your bp is good and you don't have any other symptoms, I wouldn't be too worried about it.
