Anyone in Texas (Austin)?

Hello,

My wife had HELLP before our daughter was born she stayed in the hospital for 6 days and now home. Problem is her BP (160/100) is very high and the meds given by the internist are not efective and make her ill.

Anyone know of a preeclampsia specialist or internist that cares and can help? We are to see one in 10 days (fastest they say they can get her in).

The internist at the hospital in my opinion had no clue and just want to get you home to not deal with you...

Any help please from anyone in Texas who can recommend a doctor please?

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your wife's experience with HELLP. You are right to be concerned if her pressures are that high and the meds are having no effect.

I will send your message on to our Texas Group Coordinator, and hopefully she will be able to recommend someone in your area. In my opinion, 10 days is too long to be waiting to see someone in this situation.

In the meantime, please don't hesitate to take your wife to the ER if she begins experiencing a severe headache that won't go away, has changes in her vision (spots, lights, floaters), or just "doesn't feel right". While generally preeclampsia/HELLP resolves itself following delivery, it can occur postpartum and is a serious (can be life-threatening) condition.

Hopefully someone from Texas will be getting back to you soon. Let us know how your wife is doing.

In the meantime, check out (online) www.smfm.org and use their physician locator. If you input Austin, TX and do a general search, the second to last name on the list says she specialized in hypertension. Sorry, not allowed to post doctors names here--nonprofit rules.

Thanks!
