postpartum seizures

I was wondering if you have a web site or any information about eclampsia. 6 years ago my friend gave birth to her daughter and it is believed she had preeclampsia that went untreated. She has suffered from seizures ever since then. She was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks right after giving birth, extremely delusional and in and out of consciousness. She can't get answers from any doctors that she has seen and they can't give her a straight answer as to if it was even from preeclampsia or not. This has become a huge problem and interferes with her life on a daily basis. I was just hoping that you might be of some assistance in finding an answer. I have looked all over the internet but all I come up with is issues of the problem being resolved shortly after the baby is born. I haven't read anything about it affecting you for the rest of your life.

It would be very uncommon for women with eclampsia to continue to have seizures after pregnancy. Would do not expect preeclampsia ti initiate a seizure disorder. If your friend had a stroke at the the time she had preeclampsia, then she could have an on going seizure disorder. I would expect there to be evidence of the stroke on a CT scan or an MRI.

There is some recent information that suggests that some women who have had severe preeclampsia have functional problems (eg. memory and ability to concentrate) that persists for some time. But,, I know of no information that would suggest that a woman would develop an ongoing seizure disoeder.
