aftereffects of PIH

My wife is 40 years of age.

During the last tri-mester of pregnancy with our first baby my wife had a PIH and suffered from swelling on her upper extremities. At the time of delivery / operation her blood pressure shoot up immensely so the doctors immediately operated her to save the life of kid and hers as well. After that she felt sometimes swelling on her hands but nothing further. Her B.P. remained normal. Then next year after 14 months we had our son from c-section again and premature also. But her B.P. didn't shoot up to extreme.

After that she started feeling swellings on her hands, which will sometimes became almost negligible. But since last 4 - 5 months her condition is worsening with each day passed. Her hands started to remain swelled all the time sometimes especially in morning it becomes difficult for her to even hold an empty glass for water. She feels pin-pointed headache in the upper part of her head. Her left side is most of the times feels like being paralyzed although she can move but with difficulty. She had started to feel pain in her right knee joint. Her feet have also started to remain swelled.

We have been to all the specialists of mostly all concerned fields and performed tests, every result comes normal.

Dependent edema commonly accompanies pregnancy, particularly as gestation progresses. In the absence of evidence for preeclampsia, its presence can be due to a number of factors including advanced maternal age (pregnancy stress on an older heart and cardiovascular system, kidneys, etc.), lack of enough recumbent rest, renal compromise, cardiac compromise and so forth. Occasionally in a situation as described I will utilize a low dose diuretic such as 12.5 mg daily of HCTZ or 10mg oral Lasix daily to facilitate the offloading of this edema if troubling AND after cardio-renal reasons have been investigated.
