I had Toxemia once.. think I am getting it again..

Hi,
I have noticed that I have started having lots of swelling face,hands, legs (below knee), and feet. I also have had a few bouts of my vision being a bit blurry but thought that it was due to having Lasik surgery a little over a year ago. I have headaches alot anyways so I cant tell what is causing them. I was also told on my last appt that I had trace amounts of protein. My BP has not been high yet, but was higher at my last appt. but the doc I saw that day seemed to think there was nothing wrong. I had preeclampsia with my first preg. found out at 35 wks and was put in hospital for 7 days then induced. My BP wasnt high until the day I was diagnosed nor did I have protein until then either.

I am just curious if it sounds like I am on the way to getting it again.. I am only 25 1/2 wks right now. Also for the last week I have been extremely tired.

Swelling and vision changes can certainly be associated with preeclampsia. It is unusual to see much swelling without protein in the urine, and your doctor should be watching this closely. In addition, It is unusual to see preeclampsia develop without increased blood pressure, but some of the blood pressure changes can be very subtle. I would watch your blood pressure and protein closely as a measure of your risk for preeclampsia again. Swelling is not always associated with the disease, and may not be a very reliable indicator. It is good that you are asking questions and paying close attention.
