Brewers diet; does it help prevent PE?

Postby april » Thu Jun 17, 2004 12:36 am

I was just wondering if following the Brewers diet plan could help prevent PE in a second pregnancy? I got PE very early in my first preg(23 weeks 5 days), and had to deliver and my baby did not survive. And thought mabey if a followed a diet that with high protein(80-100 grams a day), this might help. Is there any proof that this could help. Any input would be greatly appricated.

The Brewer diet has never been tested in a trial. Not only does it not make sense, there are also anecdotal reports of increased protein intake increasing the risk of preeclampsia.

There is no evidence that a high protein diet will prevent preeclampsia. Data from the calcium trial (CPEP) did not find any differences in the protein intake of women who do or do not get preeclampsia.
