I have chronic high blood pressure. My last two pregnancies, I ended up on bed rest at 6 months, due to high blood pressure. I delivered my son at 35 weeks, and my daughter at 36 weeks. I am now pregnant again. In the past, I was put on medication to regulate my blood pressure, and both of my prior obs were quite concerned with my condition. Nearing the end of my pregnancies, my bottom pressure number would be 104 or above. Although my bottom number was consistently in the 90's in my previous pregnancies, they never went up over 100 until the last few weeks.
Now that I am pregnant again, I am in my 10th week, and my bottom pressure number is already up to 104. My physician was not too concerned when the numbers were in the 90's, and did not want to put me on meds, though I was on high blood pressure medication before I got pregnant (but was advised by my primary care physician to stop taking them since I was pregnant). My question is, should I request to be placed on meds? I do not want to question my physician's judgment, but I am concerned about my baby's health as well as my own. Any advice would be appreciated.
