Occasionally it may take preeclampsia 6-8 weeks to resolve. Sometimes, however, an underlying condition may be unmasked, such as chronic hypertension of Lupus. You may want to see someone who specializes in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy to help to sort this out. Good luck.

How long can PE last after post-partum?

Postby rosemary » Thu Sep 23, 2004 08:35 pm

I am almost 4 weeks post-partum after PE/HELLP and the loss of our little angel at 20 weeks gestation. I have been doctoring for less than normal kidney function and high BP with my family doctor. My doctor stated two days ago that my PE was still in high gear. Only in the last day has my BP finally stabilized and in a 'normal/safe' range - this is due to a change in meds yesterday (I assume).

I realize that PE eventually goes away and that timeframe is different for every woman. But does anyone know what the 'normal' max time that this condition persists for?

In addition, while reviewing my medical charts, I noticed that only 2 months into my pregnancy, I was at a +2 for protein in my urine. That was never discussed with me - should a +2 count have been a concern or an early warning sign for me?

Any information that can be provided would be very much appreciated.

God Bless!
