I was wondering if a placental abruption is caused from preeclampsia? with my frist preg i had to have a emergency c-section due to a placental abruption and my obgyn told me it was from hard labor i was wondering could it have been preecampsia ? the reason i ask is becuase with my second preg i had post partum eclampsia could their be some kind of link? i only ask becuse i would like to have another baby but i sometimes think mybe i should just be greatfull for what i have

The two most common causes of placental abruption are hypertension (chronic, preeclampsia) and cocaine-related drug use. When a placental abruption occurs, there is about an 8-10% chance of it happening again.

Once eclampsia happens, your chances of it recurring are also increased but not greatly since your doctors usually intervene at the slightest suggestion of problems. None of what you have told me would rule out consideration of another pregnancy, just special care. In our unit we would start you on some medications early in pregnancy that might lessen your chances of later problems.
