I have high cholesterol and my new MFM has said I can take Niacin during my next pregnancy. Anyone every take it or hear anything about high cholesterol and pregnancy? (Effects, drugs that can be taken etc?)

I don't know about chronic high cholesterol, but I discussed cholesterol with my OB last Friday because I had blood work to qualify for life insurance and my cholesterol came back high. My OB said cholesterol is always high during pregnancy (needs to be to grow baby), so they never check it. Did you MFM tell you what he would consider normal during pregnancy?

Well my normal is way different than everyone elses! Not a lot of people seem to know much about high cholesterol and pregnancy. I just want to make sure it does nto pose a threat to me off meds during pregnancy or pose a threat to baby if its too high...no one seems to really know. I did read a few studies online that high cholesterol can have something to do with PE...so who knows. Did you get life insurance with high cholesterol?

Yes, I was able to get life insurance even with the high cholesterol. I even got the preferred rate with that and chronic hypertension if you can believe that!

I understand wanting to balance what is good for you and the baby. It might take some digging but hopefully you'll find some info regarding the safeness of meds during pregnancy. I would just want to discuss what your MFM will consider normal levels for you during pregnancy since it seems it isn't monitored much during pregnancy. Hopefully you guys can come up with a good plan.
