I hope Layla is home soon!!! sounds like she is doing well. My 30 weeker was 4.3 when she came home, and seemed SO tiny. I understand your fear... I too was just so intent on getting her home, once I got there, and sat a lone in this tiny apartment with this tiny baby, I paniced. But she never ever had a problem. You have to remember each baby is different and hopefully the docs and nurses won't send her home if they aren't sure that she is ready. Good luck! Hope to hear good news soon!

Gracie was born at 3 pounds, 14.5 oz. She went down to 3 pounds even before being discharged at 4 pounds 5 ounces. She stayed 23 days.

Meghan was born at 1 pound, 9.5 oz. She never lost below her birth weight. She stayed 79 days and went home weighing 4 pounds, 9 ounces.

Jay came home first at just under 4lbs, but he had to be rushed back in the next day - bottle feeding was tiring him out to the point where he stopped breathing. It was very scary because by the end of the day when he was back in hopsital, he was back on cpap and they were talking about having to vent him (which he hadn't needed even at birth).

I was so desperate to get him home, but really wish they'd waited until he had tolerated his feeds for longer before discharging him. It was really awful to have to go back and to see him so sick. Not least because for 8 hours he was on a regular children's ward full of cases of brochiolitis, and they had no equipment small enough for him.

I'm not trying to scare you, just to try and be absolutely sure he's ready. I have one pic of Jay at home that first day, and when I look at it now, I can't believe they let him home . It certainly put us back weeks - I think it was another 10 days before we finally got him home.

I was told after the fact, that the hospital guidelines were to not let them home before they were 4lbs, but they needed the beds.

Bit late chiming in here, but what the heck.. [:)]

Isabel was all of 3 1/2 pounds when we brought her home. Used the smallest carseat we could find - hospital did a "Car seat test" to be sure she would tolerate it and off we went. What a day that was... I'll have to post the pictures someday.

They kept telling us that size/weight wasn't the key deciding factor on sending her home and they were true to their word.

Anton was back up to his birth weight when we took him home. 3lbs. 14 oz. Just under 4 lbs. basically.

That's great that she's starting to nipple all her feedings. I know everyone preaches patience, but with these little ones....that's a requirement. Hang in there. She'll be home before you know it!!!! Yay Layla!!![:D]
