Magnesium Sulfate Survivors

My most vivid memory of Mag (probably my only one for 2 days!!) 36 hours after delivery, it was about 7 am Friday morning. My DH was sound asleep (after crying all night) so I wasn't abou to wake him. My lips were so dry and my chapstick was too far away. When the nurse came in, I asked her to get if for me. I didn't think to ask her to open it! I was so weak that I couldn't get the cap off! Torture. Anyway, they stopped the drip shortly after and within an hour, I felt perfectly normal - I doubt I was, but it was such a difference. I am praying to be spared that experience again, but I know it saved my life.

Hi Jennifer.

Thank you for the welcome. I still have it pretty fresh in my mind because it was only 2 weeks ago that I delivered my daughter. She is doing very well. She is now 3 pounds and 5 ounces. She pulled out her feeding tube today though [:(] Everyone in the NICU has been great. I drive an hour to an hour and a half to be with my daughter every day. They have me trying to breast feed her and when she can do it successfully, they will cut back on the tube feedings and eventually take it out.

WOW thats a long drive! I was lucky to have our hospital 20mins away! Dont worry about her pulling out the tube mine both did that all the time. I hope she continues to do well and gets to come home soon! How early was she?

Mine did the tube thing too. It cracks me up when people say that they aren't coordinated enough to do that...yeah right!
One of my gf's 28 weeker twins pulled out his broviac line!!!

Preemies are extra spunky! they have to be, they are survivors[:D].

Im so glad to have seen this thread...I ws also put on it and will be again as soon as things go out of control. That stuff is nasty and I don't know about you all but I had to get that catheter put in first w/ out being sedated or numb and that was awful. I was having a big time panic attack. I too had the eyeballs on fire for 2 1/2 days after UGH! That stuff made me vomit, especially since the morons tried to get me to eat when I was still on it. I definitely WON'T be eating on it again! I am dreading going back on it sooooo bad, I think it will probably be even worse this time since now I really know how crappy it really is. And I too think we should get some kind of award or t-shirt for surviving it. Ugh just the thought of it is making me feel yucky.
I am so glad it all wasn't just in my head like they want you to think.

I know!!!
I feel the same way, and I have a good chance of it in my immediate future as well.
I am requesting vesteril while I am of sound mind.
I had insane panic attacks!!!

I had a BAD foley cath., experience as well. I made them take it out and I used a bedpan until I got my epidural. Then I could not have cared less!!

I feel ya on the food, but I drank a ton of water and diet sprite!!! Jello too. clear stuff ya know.


Keep us posted. (I was reading about you in the bedrest forum.)

I guess I'm a lucky one- I was on Mag for like 3 days prior to being induced and the only thing I remember I was a little out of it- and had the HOT burning sensation in my arm (where the IV was)

I am also allergic to sulfa drugs but didn't have a reaction. I saw that someone did.... what happened?

Just hopeing if I have to go on it for this delivery that I won't have a reaction!!
