We have a beanie bear that is bigger than Ivy was. Usually we tell people, she was an inch longer than a Barbie doll.

I made one of those dolls for my 28 weeker. I need to make one for Ivy.

OH I SOOOOO WANT ONE OF THOSE DOLLS TOO CINDY!!!
Aren't those sooo nifty!! I didn't realize they cost a pretty penny -Bummer!
Why don't you and I start making them on the side - The Preemie Doll Knock Off Chix.
Remember the Cabbage Patch craze in the 80's and how they made those homemade ones??
We could do the same... mine will be ketchup bottle shaped LOL!

Why oh why did you start this thread *giggle* j/k… now I’m going to be looking for food comparisons LOL… I did look into having a custom Reborn preemie doll made… but couldn’t justify the cost :( I thought it would have been neat to show Carson how small he was when he got older w/the doll… but I guess now I can just find the right food item and show him that :)

What a cool thread!!! I never did any comparisons - just that I'm short and have small hands and his tiny heiny fit in my palm!

On a side note - my preemie niece (going on 11 this year) LOVES hearing how tiny she was!!!

I used to tell people to think of a bag of sugar -- then explain that Jake weighed half of that! (For some reason, that analogy always worked).

I have a picture of him lying on my chest during kangaroo care and his whole little hand fit into the hollow of my throat...

We have a pic of Brianna lying next to a two liter bottle of Pop, after she had come home from the hospital, so she had grown a bit. We have a pic of Chance with a beanie baby, ostrich, and it is actually a little bigger then him.

Or Brianna is our 2 liter and Chance is our 20oz bottle of pop

We used to tell people that her ears were the size of a thumbnail, and that her fingers were just a bit larger than matchsticks.

DH told everyone that Anna Grace's head and torso was the same width of a baseball and that she was as long as a football! Now, I don't know if either of those were 'true' (I never measured a baseball or football to see if dh was *right* when he made those references) but, they seem to have stuck because, even now, our other kids refer to her as 'baseball head'. *Yippee* :(

My supervisor at work explained to my co-workers that Jacob was about the size of a 20 oz bottle of soda with a head attached. So amazing to remember those days he literally fit into my hand!
