My DS is 5

Are you part of the NICU club? Do you have a child who is still struggling with the effects of being born too soon from preeclampsia? Share your concerns and stories here among parents who have been there.

I wonder if it's because he was on his tummy a lot the 1st six weeks or so and they rubbed against the bed. Another thought is the prolonged TPN caused some nutritional deficiencies and this is the result. Who really knows! The poor kid is going to fight with them all his life though.

Yes, the years have flown by. We went through the NICU memory box and I'm absolutely amazed that this beautiful, intelligent, challenging child could have ever had a BP cuff smaller than a lot of bandaids!

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to post pics?

Interesting question Christine. Avery's toe nails grow funny too, especially the big toe. I didn't think much of it. Her's aren't thick or thin, but they defintely grow weird. ;-)

Robyn,
Happy Birthday to your son. I had to laugh at the no bum thing because my son who will be 4 in less than 3 weeks is 37 lbs and is already 44 1/4 inches tall. I say the same thing about my son having no bum, he's tall and thin. Also, my son has problems with his toe nails they're think and grow funny. His pedi. said it could of been from the trauma at birth...(?) does that sound right to any body?

Allan turned 5 @ 12:15 this morning. At this time five years ago we were both in critical shape. He was a good size for a 28 weeker @ 2 lbs, 6 oz but very, very sick. I was in critical care drifting in and out with BPs in the 240/120 range. It would be a long 14 1/2 week stay in the NICU.

Today he's in kindergarten (having to pay for a private one because of dumb state rules), weighs 40 pounds and is about 44 inches tall. Tall and skinny with no rear end! His only true lasting effect of prematuriy is his finger & toe nails- they are very pitted and thin and constantly breaking or tearing. His pedi doesn't think it will ever go away but I guess I should consider us very lucky.

I will post a picture tonight after his family party. The BIG party is on Saturday.
