My 27 weeker was not placed on the vent until Day 2, then he was off the vent and back on CPAP within 5 days thereafter. So yes, it's very possible! They can do amazing things! Sounds like he's quite the little figher :) Thinking of your friend!

Off the vent is awesome! My 27+5 weeker came off the vent in 1 day!

My prayers to your friend. Like the others said it is possible for a baby to come off the vent that quickly. we recieved the steriod injections with my son the two days before delivery. He was born at 27+4 and was only off and on the vent for 3 days, then CPAP, then nasal canula.

Yes its possible to be off vent in a week. Nicole is a former 27 weeker and was off the vent and on CPAP after 5 days and did amazing. Good luck to your friend and hopefully she joins on us here. Congrats to her on the arrival of her son. You're right preeclampsia does suck!

Glad you invited her to the boards...hopefully she'll stop by when she is ready. And yes, it's fully possible that a 28 weeker could be off a vent in a week. He might still be on CPAP and oxygen though, you see. But as the NICU goes, sometimes those little ones take two steps forward and then one step back. It's a rollercoaster.

We'll keep her, baby, and the family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

My friend's co=worker just delivered a 1 lb 3 oz baby @ 28 weeks, she's @ a great NICU though. It's a little boy, he's now 1 week old. I messaged her on myspace to tell her about this board, I hope she joins. She lives in WY but is having to stay hours away in CO, that's going to be very hard with a baby who wil have such a long stay. She thinks they already got the baby off the vent @ a week old, is that possible?
