did anyone bring a 34 weeker right home?

I am 34 weeks, and hanging in, but the Dr. said things could change at any time and that we will induce shorty after they do.
Bella was 33 5/7 and measured 31 wks.
This baby looked 4 pounds at the last level II May 1st. (which in a perfect world would make her close to 5 today.).

Anyhow, I wonder if we could actually bi-pass the nicu this time.

I know none of you has a crystal ball, but any experiences that will shed a positive light here?

Sorry Jennifer, both my boys were 37 weeks and 36 weeks on the nose. My 37 weeker was discharged with me and my 36 weeker stayed 1 day longer. At 34/35 weeks most babies would require a nicu stay of less then 1 week though, unless there are other complications. The biggest threat really is how ready the lungs are, though there is artifical stuff they can add to the lungs to quicken that up (which takes well less longer then waiting)

My DD was 4lbs and 3 oz when she was delivered at 34 weeks. She stayed in the NICU for 12 days, which gave me the chance to heal a bit before she came home. She had no severe health problems. Just needed to be under the bili light for a few days and needed to learn how to suck. Other than that, she was perfect!

But I'm sure it's very possible to bring home a perfectly healthy 34 week baby. If you're deliverying in an emergency due to pre-e, it might be a good thing for your baby to stay in the NICU for just a little while so that you can get back on your feet a little quicker and to give your bp some time to stabilize back to normal.

Just to give you some hope... My friend who had twins on Monday night will be able to bring her twins home when she is released tomorrow. They were born at 33.4 weeks due to preterm labor... Hope this helps!

My baby was a 28 weeker, but he was discharged at what would have been 34 weeks. He came home on a heart/apnea monitor. I would guess that a 34-weeker with no other problems wouldn't require a very long stay.

I brought my 35 weeker right home on time. He didnt go to NICU at all and roomed in with me right from day 1.

I brought my 34 weeker home @ 36 weeks. She was small- but did awesome. Didn't have to be on a vent or anything.

She only stayed the 2 weeks to gain some weight/hold body temp/and feed. I had the steroid shots with her (2 times before she was born)
