UPDATE: soon to be mom of 34 week little angel

Doctor is inducing me on Monday night. My blood pressure has been erratic but mostly high. He feels since we got to 34 weeks that it is better to deliver now than wait until something major is going wrong. Last ultrasound that they did measurements she was measuring 4 lbs and a little. That was about a week and a half ago now. Have had my cortizone shots. For the last few biweekly ultrasounds, I have seen rhythmic breathing, sucking and swallowing. Doctor says she will most likely be going to the NICU, he says for a few days to possibly 2 weeks. I have always been told preemies are usually in NICU until they reach their due date or close to it. Can anyone tell me what they faced with their little ones born around this same time?

Per my signature, my 34 weeker was home in 11 days. She had no complications besides a little jaundice. And I got the shots before she came. Good luck to you!

We were told to expect our 32 weeker to stay in the NICU until his due date, but he came home at 36 weeks. I had gotten the shots too. Good luck Monday!

statistically things are in your favor being your 34 weeks and having a girl (oddly girls do incredibly well compared to boys).
Though I realize each preemie is very different, so it's hard to say if and what complications could arise.
But do keep in touch and let us know how things go, we'll be thinking of you.
Best wishes for a healthy/ happy /complication free delivery!

Will you be 34 weeks & a few days on Monday? Even a few additional days makes such a difference for preemies. I know it's a lot longer (in preemie terms) than 34 weeks but I didn't have steroids & my 3rd (induced at 36 weeks exactly) she didn't need any NICU time, needed no breathing help & only had jaundice as a complication. She just stayed in the hospital one extra day for phototherapy.

Like Jenn said, girls seem to be stronger than boys when born early. So like your Dr. said, it could be just a couple days or up to 2 weeks. Good luck!!

My 32 weekers came home at 38 weeks. They tell you the baby will not come home until term, but the closer they are to 40 week gestation, the further from it they are likely to come home (a 28 weeker might not go home until 40 weeks, but a 35 weekers might go home at 37). My friend had a 34 weeker and she was in Special Care for 2 weeks and never needed any breathing support. Good luck!

Good luck tonight :)

My 33 weeker spent 16 days in the special care unit for temp. and feeding issues. It may have been much longer had we not been able to do gavage feeding at home (we did a breast/bottle/gavage combo) which we continued until the week of her due date when she was finally gaining consistently enough to drop the HMF supplement and stick to breastfeeding alone.

My 33 weeker, weighing 3lb. 7oz. was in the NICU for about two weeks. Jaundice and some eating issues. She came home at just over 4 lbs.
