Anyone with babies who developed Hemangiomas?

I delivered my 2nd son at 35 weeks Feb 7th. Several weeks later, we noticed a hemangioma (strawberry birthmark)grew on his left nostril. While researching hemangiomas on various sites, but mainly the VBF site, I discovered a number of mothers had PE. I thought I would post here to see if there are any other PE/HELLP moms whose baby had this. I also read on one site that the hemangioma tissue is similar to placenta tissue. If PE/HELLP develops because of a problem in the placenta, is there any link to hemangiomas? It's probably just coincidental, but it made me wonder. By the way (sorry for the long post), my first son born at 28wks due to PE/HELLP did not have a hemangioma. He did, however, have two mongolian spots (birthmarks). His skin is darker than his younger brothers so that could explain it.

I think there are a couple posters here with a child with hemangioma, but not an overwhelming number. I think it is probably coincidental, but haven't looked at any studies. My SIL had perfect pregnancies and her second had a couple of hemangioma's that went away on their own.

I had my son at 26 weeks and he has a quarter size hemangiomas on his shoulder, i dont know if it has anything to do with PE but I know quite a few people who have never had PE and one of their kids has hemangiomas

There are some new treatments for hemangioma that are looking quite promising. We follow a few kids with it in our practice. If you Google "Beta Blocker" and "hemangioma" you should be able to find out more. Since hemangioma may be caused by alterations in endothelial growth factor (which may also play a part in placental dysfunction, found in pre-e) perhaps there is some association? I haven't found any studies on that aspect of it, though. Good luck with your little one!

Thank you everyone for your posts. I think it is coincidental since there wasn't an overwhelming amount of replies to my post. We saw a specialist yesterday and it appears that Jason's H is only superficial and we are currently treating it with a steroid cream. After a month, we will reevaluate and possibly try Propanolol.

I missed this one earlier. One of my PE sons did have one on his chest. It eventually faded on its own by the time he was around 3. I had totally forgotten about it til now.

One of my twins has one on the back of his head! Also, my firstborn had one on his shoulder- how interesting!

My 28 weeker had a hemangioma right near her eye that we just got removed through a second surgery. It was a deep hemangioma and very substantial. We have another surgery coming up in September to fix her muscle up.

Late on this topic, but my daughter had one on the back of her head that eventually went away. She was a month early and my son was 8 weeks early and didn't have one. Interesting though if it is a commonality among PE moms.

I have read on several sites that birth marks in general are more common among premature babies. So there could a link with prematurity instead of pre-eclampsia as well.
