Not gaining weight

Anyone had a preemie that stopped gaining weight? My little girl only gained 3oz in 2 weeks and she's now on more oxygen than before. I was hoping she would be coming off of it but no such luck. The Dr. has me supplementing her with 4 bottles a day now (was exclusively nursing). I think there is something else going on though because the week before she had gained just fine. Anyone else have this happen? She is only at 6lb 4oz at 2 months old (4 days adjusted).

Samara is 2 wks and is not gaining weight either. She is eating great but not keeping anything on her for fat. My peds switched her to a formula for fat malabsorption problems and said that the nurse will check her weekly and possibly run some tests to eliminate some possibilities for this.

NOt sure what to tell you but just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in this. samara only weighs 6 5 and was born at 6 12. I hope all goes okay and will keep u and family in my prayers to gain gain gain little girl.

If your daughter is having breathing difficulty, that could make her burn more calories. Do you have a machine that monitors her oxygen saturation? It's called an oximiter? This is a great machine, because you will know exactly the right level of oxygen she needs at all times. It's hard to think the oxygen is going up, but trust me, she will be off of it before you know it.

Another thing, are you certain she is getting enough to eat? Is she on a high cal preemie formula. You can get formulas that go up to 24 cals per ounce, and you can even mix formula to higher calories per ounce if you know the right measurements. Max was on 30 cals/ounce to help him gain. Best way to know if she is getting enough is by output. She should be having 6-8 wet diapers a day and at least one BM (although skipping a day or two here or there isn't a problem and is often common with young babies).

I hope you find the answers! I know how hard it must be to not have your baby growing!

I would call a ped. asap to discuss what's happening.
Could be just about anything causing this.
You're a great mom to be watching her so closely and notice right away when there has been a change in her.

I would call the doctor and discuss your concerns. Have they tried to fortified your BM.. It gets added right to your BM (the down side you would have to bottle feed but you would know what she was taken in.)

Due to the O2 it does tend to burn more cals.

Thanks everyone for your response. We were doing really well before this. She had gained 6oz in a week and the Dr. said I could come back in 2 weeks instead of every week. I had been exclusively nursing her. When I took her back in she had only gained 3oz on the same scale. She actually gained even less because she had her diaper on this time and not last time.

We have her on an apnea monitor and oximeter at home. She had been satting at 100% on 1/32 and we were hoping to take her off the oxygen. That morning however she was in the low 90's and ever since then she's had to be on 1/16.

We are also now adding formula to breastmilk to make it 24cal 4 times a day. I was supposed to make an appt to take her back in next week and I forgot so I'll have to call Mon. Keeping my fingers crossed that this all works.
