Need advise on GERD

Samara is on Zantac and Reglan for her GERD and for the most part it helps her alot. But sometimes she still had the formula come up and she has trouble breathing since she gags so hard and turns blue around her mouth. I dont know what else I can do to help her and am worried that she will have trouble in the middle of the night and i will not hear her. I am going to call her doc next week since he had a family emergency and is not in the office and i dont want to ask the doc that is working since he told me nothing was wrong with her,

Do you ladies know anything that will help her make it thru the weekend

Sandra- I'm so sorry for you guys- I remember feeling so helpless watching my son gag and spit-up ALL the time. My biggest suggestion is to get one of those foam wedge beds that elevate which will help to keep the nighttime spit-up to a minimum. He started to sleep so much better when we did that. Depending on where she sleeps, you could try lifting the head of the crib(?) a bit... same idea.

Kyle was on Zantac for about 5 months and the reflux finally went away around 8 or 9 months.

We have 2 regular pillows under one end of Wyatts mattress still and it does help at nite some. I have asked the doctors about Wyatt and Whitney both turning blue around their lips and I was told that when they cry or anything like that, that is causes less oxygen to those areas first but not to worry about it unless it stayed like that for an extended period of time and they werent crying or anything.

Whitney is 5 and still turns a little blue every now and then (just around her lips and lower nose though).

Good Luck I know how trying it can be. Another thing you can do as well that some do when they cant raise the bed is strap her into the carseat and let her sleep in it as it stays at more of an upright position. Hope she starts doing better soon.

Sandra, I was beat to it.
Lifting her up to a constant 45 degree angle is a biggie.
Don't let her lay flat...or dum dee dum dum guess what?! It's back.
Try to feed up sitting up and for a good time after that to make sure food is digested.
Never let her turn blue!
Call 911 if that happens! Not something to mess with.
Also if poss. sleep with her if you want.
Jai still sleeps in my bed with us - bad habits die hard, but I don't care.
Jai still wakes coughing from reflux.

Make sure you stay in contact with her dr. and update them with any and all changes in her so they can treat her accordingly.

In addition to the other suggestions, you might want to ask about Prilosec. It has to be compounded for infants at a pharmacy, but it worked wonders for Ainsley. Since Reglan has so many icky side effects, I refused to give it to Ainsley (I had tried it during my pregnancy for HG).

Also, Ainsley would mostly sleep in her bouncy seat, since it sat up more.

My computer wont let me search and have been trying to find some info on the side effects on Reglan and Zantac. DO you know what they are or can someone give me a link to a site so I can get the info.

The only thing I had a problem with was the Reglan. When I gave it to Wyatt he would not sleep and they told me tht was one of the side-effects. I know there are a few others that have used it as well and named a few others side-effects I think.

Thanks Sandy for the website. Samara is doing good except she wont stop eating. THe meds are working good and at night she sleeps sitting in her car seat so she dont gag wich she sometimes still does but her doc said is a sign of the reflux and does it closer to needing a dose of her meds.

Hello all-
I just recently found this site. It would have been really nice to join when I was pregnant! Anyway, my son has bad reflux as well and is on the Zantac and Reglan. The car seat trick is good, some nights, he even slept in there. The wedge with the positioners in the bed also was of help, you can put the baby on her side and position so she won't roll on to her stomach. We also kept Grant upright for at least an hour after he ate. It is hard in the middle of the night to do but, hey, it's the least I can do for the little guy! He is now 5 months old and we still keep the nose suckers handy.
