Oh, happy birthday!!! our little peanuts share the same birthday! It is surreal to look back on the day they were born, isn't it? I can't believe how time flys - and how strong our little preemie's are. Look how far they've come. I'm so proud of hannah -what a fighter! What a story she has to tell. Hope you have a great day ~ that's wonderful that you get to spend it with her.

MY ONE POUND WONDER IS 3 TODAY!!!

Postby hannahsmom » Tue Aug 24, 2004 06:42 am

Well, today is Hannah's third birthday. Boy, has time flown. I took off work today and we're going to the doctor for her three year check-up and then we're going to hang out at Chuck E. Cheese for as long as she wants to play. I can't believe three years ago today the doctors told me Hannah had to be born right away because we were both in danger of dying. The biggest memory in my mind of that day was asking everyone if my baby was alive, over and over and over. I saw her for a brief second after birth and they whisked her off to the NICU. Everyone told me she had made it but I didn't believe it. I even didn't believe my husband, so the nurses took a digital picture and printed it out and sent it down to recovery for me to see. I also remember right after Hannah was delivered, the NICU nurse practioner leaning over me on the operating table and telling me that Hannah weighed less than a pound and they would do everything they could for her. When Hannah got up to the NICU she was weighed again and was 1 pound 1 ounce. I didn't get to see her for two or three days because my blood pressure would not go down, my memory of that time is still a blur. When I finally did see her, the nurses had put a beanie baby in the warmer with her and they were the same size. It was just amazing that a creature so tiny could fight so hard for her life. Then the next morning I was in my hospital room and the nurse prationer came down to talk to me. She said Hannah had caught an infection and it was very, very serious. She said Hannah had about 50% chance of survival. I began to cry and so did she. I knew then how serious it was. So we had her Baptised that day and we had people around the world praying for a miracle. A few days later we got one - the infection was gone. I truly believe it was the power of prayer. The rest of her nearly four month stay was just as rocky, but we got through it. This is going to be a happy but emotional day for me. Thanks for listening.
