NICU Developmental followups- are they mandatory?

I know everyone lives in a lot of different places here so I know I will get a lot of different answers but I am very upset over the last two follow-ups and the fact that my insurance that I had on Caitlyn did not want to pay for the Doctor to look at her but paid for everyone else (that I know of since I have not gotten a bill for the nutritionist, etc.) Are these follow-ups mandatory? Can we cancel it as long as she is getting her shots, and having her well baby visits and has had no real problems? Trust me, I will do anything in this world for my daughter and do not want to harm her development any but I wanted to know your opinions.

I think they are very strongly encouraged, but dont see how they could be manditory. I mean like, it certainly is not a legal thing, the govt. cant make you. Daycares and schools only require shots and sometimes physicals. But I cant see who could make them manditory. But if you have even the slightest concerns about her I would really try to find a way to go. {HUGS}

That's great that Caitlyn is doing so well!
Though I think you answerd your own question...if you don't want to harm her development...don't.
Talk with you insurance, the doctor and ask about getting these visits pre-approved...that way nobody can send an ugly bill later. I too have been there.
I too thought Jai was doing so darn well..but others pointed out things I overlooked and thought was normal. -but that was me-
Talk with your ped and see if they can "watch" her development, or even just discuss your concerns.

Hi! Our insurance would not pay for the developmental checkups. But the way the developmental clinic worked was that they would bill your insurance, and whatever the insurance didn't pay for, was NOT billed to the patient. It was just written off. I guess it's because the clinic really wanted to keep track of the babies. So, you may want to talk to the person in charge of your developmental program and tell them your insurance won't pay for it. Maybe they will do the same thing. Good luck!

I've never even heard of these, so I'd hazard a guess that they're not required here. LOL I do think checking with your pediatrician is definitely the way to go. Good luck...dealing with insurance is the biggest pain in the rump. You have my sympathies with that.
