Bowel movements

Well I posted earlier and Samara is doing alot better on her eating and gassy issue.
However i was wondering if anyone has experienced problems with their little ones BMs. SHe is not constipated and acts like it hurrts bad when she goes she makes a high pitched squel like inhale and cries. Is this normal. Her doc said nothing to serious to worry about and that he will check out at 2 month check up.I was just wondering if anyone else had this and what was the cause, treatment and the outcome.

On the 21rst on Sept. SO in a couple weeks. They say not to worry it shouldnt be a big deal but I hate to see her in pain if you know what I mean

hmm not sure, Mason started to complain on bowl movements when his hernia formed at first but I don't see any reason why Samara would suddenly form a hernia (it happens in boys sometimes when their testicles descend). Maybe it frightens her a bit because she had been constipated and it hurt before so now shes anticipating it?

Well she was never constipated. Her BMs are so loud and explosive I always check to make sure she hasnt ripped her diaper open. Can a girl get a hernia in the groin. What would be the signs. She has one in her stomach so I dont know. I thought that might cause some pain when BM but they said no.

Well the reason most boys get hernias is because when the testicles descend into the scrotum from the abdamon they have to pass through the muscle wall in the pelvis. This leaves a small hole in the muscle, which the intestines typically slip through. That is what causes the pain beause the intestines can be somewhat restricted and can become strangulated. Further, in Mason, it caused constipation.

We noticed his hernia on the right side because he suddenly had a lump where he shouldn't have had one (it looked like a 3rd testicle almost). When they fixed that one they also explored the left side and found a small hernia there that was also fixed.

Hernia's are far more common in boys then in girls and far more common in preemies then full term babies. The stomach hernia should't cause her any discomfert, but if she is having loud and explosive BM's, its quite possible that they do hurt when she goes. The area may be tender too. Have you looked to see if its red or irritated looking?

Her rectum? I assume that is what we are talking about being red. It looks red and very overly stretched. She seems to be doing okay today but hasnt had a BM either.

Hi! My daughter was the same exact way. She would cry and let out a cry just like Samara does and it seemed really painful but it was always squishy, she eventually stopped that and the doctor just said some babies do that because they are unconfortable with BMs. I dunno, but it did eventually stop, I don't remember when, sorry.
One thing that did seem to help is if I caught her starting to make BM faces I would hold her straight up and that seemed to help some, and like make her do bicycle exercises with her little legs. It's suopposed to help with their BMs.

DD Emily born 4-01-04 at 37 weeks due to severe PE/Eclampsia. Currently postpartum.
