My ? is that I am looking at being induced at 35 weeks. How many of you had 35 weekers and how did they do? Did you have steroids and when did you get them? Just any info would be great.

Hi, I wasn't exactly in your situation, but I delivered my second son at 36 weeks, without steroid shots. He was small (about 2 weeks behind), and ended up being in the NICU for 5 days, due to low blood sugar. Otherwise, he's been perfectly healthy and has had no problems! Good luck to you...please keep us up on how you're doing!

I was induced just a day shy of 35 weeks. No steroids for us. DD was 4lbs 17 1/2inches and did fairly well. She stayed for 15 days, and had some minor oxygen problems in the beginning and was on extra O2 for the first week or so. She had an NG tube for feedings and was eating 15-20cc's at first, but up to 30cc's by the time we left (that's for each feeding, every 3-4 hours). She had to stay in the isolette for 13 of the days to help regulate her temp. She did very well, and is now 16 months and growing great. It was scary as I found out I was to deliver Fri night with HELLP syndrome and I had her on Sat, so I didn't have time to prepare. She wore preemie outfits for the first month or two after coming home. Gotta love those tiny preemie diapers too. They look so small now.

Best of luck to you!!

Since I was admitted at 33 weeks we did steriod shots just in case otherwise we were just going to do an amino to see if lungs were mature. At 35 weeks most babies do very very well.

YUP I CAN HELP. I had steroid shots at 28 wks. Samara has done GREAT. SHe needed help breathing at first but after that she got to stay with me AND went home in 24 hours. SHe has a hernia and some GERD but other than that she is perfect. I was induced at 35 wks. They did tell me that she may need help breathing and I know that i was lucky that she came home so early.THe best thing is to be prepared and to talk to the NICU at the hospital and get info on their procedures and ask what you could expect so that no surprises happen for u.
Are u on steroids or are they planning to give them for u. If you have any questions or just wabnt to talk Email me

Hi Ethansmom,
I had the steroid shots at 28 weeks. Had an amnio around 34 weeks (?) and lungs were found to be nowhere near mature. Had to have baby out at 35 weeks and 1 day.

She had periods of apnea when she was born and because of this, they took her straight to the Level II NICU. 36 hours later her lung collapsed, and she was transferred to another facility; a Level III NICU.

After 2 weeks, she was well enough to finally come home. Not sure of the reason for the lung collapse...could have been that her lungs just weren't ready, or it could have been an unfortunate air pocket pressing against the lung which didn't get pushed and squeezed out during a "traditional" birth method.

~Sandy/DD born via emergency C at 35 wks/1 day June '03 due to Severe PE/class III HELLP

CAUGHT THE EGG!! Estimated hatch date: 3/13/05; scheduled C at 39 weeks...or earlier if needed.

When DS was born I was just over 34 wks and I asked about the shots and was told that afer 34wks they usually dont give them because most do well after that point. i was only 5 days past when put in the hospital. Had DD at 36wks and there was no talk about it at all then.

DS has done rather well, we were in the hopital for 4 days after he was born and the only time he stayed in the nursery was when he had to be under the billi lights for almost 2 days. He has reflux and asthma. And his speech is slightly delayed, other than that, he is a very active 14mo old now.

I had my son at 35 w and 4 days. I WAS given 1 steriod shot the night before. He was 5 lb 1 ounces and totaly fine. He had no time what so ever in NICU and roomed in with me from the first night. He went home right on time too. He had a little jaundice which was treated with a light at home. He really had not problems and nothing different than a full term child.

Will 2-6-00 (PE at 35 weeks)
Elizabeth 7-3-01 (NO PE or PIH)

Yoni was born at 35 weeks. He spent some time in the NICU, mostly "feeding and growing" However, he started off with sepsis and needed nasal canula for the first week. We had not gotten the steriod shots. However, the bulk of his problems weren't breathing specifically. Rather, he'd forget to breathe when he ate (which is a apparently very common for 35 weekers according to his ped).

Good luck!
