Has anyone still had their protein problems stay after delivery? It has been over a year and I still have +2. Am I doomed or just bad luck?

Jolynn191978,
Have you seen a nephrologist? There are some that suffer some kidney damage after PE. If you are not already, it would be worth seeing a specialist. Take care of yourself.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I have seen a nephrologist and he didn't say a whole lot about it. He said as long as my protein was +1 or less and was gone by 3 years later, no worries. I am nervous because I am pregnant again and don't know my chances for kidney failure or preeclampsia again. Scary.

Hi Jolynn,

I can see why you are nervous. Are you seeing a perinatoligist in this preg? How about the last preg? If not I recommend seeing one soon. You can find one in your area at www.nasshp.org. Your kidneys are still stressed and it puts you at a higher risk along with having had PE before. It doesn't mean that you will get it again it just means you have more risk contributors. How is your pre-preg and preg bps? Are you on any meds?

Do you know Sara (troutorama)? She is the UT coordinator for the Preeclampsia Foundation. She is a great person-I've enjoyed getting to know her on-line [:)]. Anyway there is a UT mtg sometime in May I think. E-mail her.

Kyri is a pretty name. I have never heard it before.

Hi!

It has been nine months since I delivered my son and I'm still spilling protein as well. I had a 24 hour done about 3 months ago that showed >100mg. I went to see a new perinatalogist and he recommended putting me on an ACE Inhibitor (Lisinopril) to see if we might be able to get that number a little lower. I just had another 24 hour done (after being on the meds for a little over a month) and my protein came in at 64.5mg! So, in my case, that has definitely helped! The only thing though is that these meds are not safe during pregnancy so, I'm not sure what they would use if anything during pregnancy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, I hope that the next 7 months are very uneventful [:)]!! I'd definitely take Nancy's advice and locate a high-risk OB!
