I am curious about what to pay someone (college student) to come keep the boys in our home 2 days per week when I go back to work. Any ideas or suggestions as to how to figure that out?

I think that it really depends upon where you live. I know that my SIL pays about $10/hr for her college student babysitter who is with her sons part time each day. She lives in Vermont. I have my son in great daycare in NYC and unfortunately it is quite expensive, although not as expensive as others. I know in NYC there is a website that shows daycare options and gives info about how much certain types of care cost. Good Luck.

Up here in Ak- most of the people I know charge $15 half day for up to five hours and $25/day full day per child- Based on rates here- I'd probably say $40/day would be fair- it averages out to $5 hour and would be like $20/day per child (and the kids would be in your home, eating your food, etc.)

In GA, I pay $50 for one day a week in my home for 2 kids.

Hi, Iansmom! We live in the same area...so here's what I pay for Hannah to be in Daycare five days a week. When she was a year old, it was $115 per week, now that she's two it is $110 a week, and when she turns three it will go down to $95 a week (only if she's potty trained). When I take her to a private sitter on the weekends (which is very rare) I pay $5 an hour. Does your sitter have a set hourly fee? I imagine a college student wouldn't be too expensive. Good luck!

Hannahs Mom,
I thought I might hear from you on this one. I was thinking about $50/day, but that is so hard to swallow when Ian's daycare is only $150/month for 3 mornings a week!! this person is a friend of the family, but I want to pay her fairly - she probably would undercharge if asked. Our goal is for DH to stay at home as much as possible, but he has started his own business. He isn't working now because of me, but he will work some when I get better. So, I told him I wanted a college student a couple of days a week to come to our house. Ian will also continue in school - he loves it. This is too much to think about!! thanks for the input, when my brain returns I will figure it out!
