Here is a link that shows the meds that are compatible with breastfeeding- http://kellymom.com/health/meds/aap-app ... html#Heart
L1 would be the best and L5 the worse. L2's are good choices. I believe procardia is one that is preferred for breastfeeding. I was taking a much higher dose and nursing postpartum 120 I believe. I ended up switching to the toporol and now am on propranolol and it has worked the best for me so far.
BP Meds and Breastfeeding
Re : BP Meds and Breastfeeding
Hi Katie - I know I'm a little late but I was on Toporol during my entire pregnancy and during nursing. My doctor also had to add a ACE inhibitor post delivery as well. I'm so glad things are going well for you and Kyle.

I've been on labetalol for almost 5 years now. Taking it during pregnancy and while nursing.

Re : BP Meds and Breastfeeding
I was on methyldopa during pregnancy and my BP was way worse after delivery, so they put me on 60XL mg of procardia. Maybe they just need to up your dose for a little while? I know my doctors always wanted to give it a week or two to see if the medicince was going to work before they upped it! What are your pressures running?

I am on labetolol currently.
Re : BP Meds and Breastfeeding
I was on labetolol and methyldopa while pregnant and while breastfeeding. I was on higher doses while breastfeeding-my pressures were higher after pregnancy too.
Re : BP Meds and Breastfeeding
I need more & different meds after delivery because my BP's were worse after delivery than they'd been pregnant. I was on labetalol & added 60 mg. procardia. Then I had a reaction to labetalol & had to quit that. I also took Clonidine & eventually HCTZ. There were probably others too - we tried a bunch of combos during the 11 months I BF.
There are a lot of different meds that are safe - I hope you find one that helps!

I was on Atenolol during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
BP Meds and Breastfeeding
I'm nursing and still taking some bp meds: Procardia XL 30mg 1x daily. It works ok for me - actually - oddly enough - my pressures were better during this past pregnancy than they are now. It could be that I'm sitting a lot at home - one week out from delivery - and my pressure feels better when I get regular exercise - or it could be that I need a better/more effective medicine.
Does anyone know which BP meds are used or safe to use for breastfeeding women and babies?
I should make an appointment w/ my PCP this week.
