Yeeee- My Allie has had numerous re-checks because she is right on the line for hypertension. At six. Normal weight, etc. Horrible!

I think it would be very interesting to have more research done in this area. I sure HATE PE!!!

Well, I for one am on of those 'kids' who was born from preeclampsia. I was doomed not only to have high BP - but also PE. Actually, my BP is down so that I don't need meds - but my docs have told me I've got chronic BP - its just a matter of time before it raises again.

My kids - I think they've taken Nathanials BP once since he left the NICU - Jonathan hasn't had it taken since then either (not even at his hospital stay 2 wks ago).

I wonder if they are accounting for the fact that people with PE also have high blood pressure in their families. Seems like they should have an equal percentage of people in the control group who have a family history of high blood pressure to the the PE group.

Can anyone explain the difference between "regular" hypertension and pulmonary hypertension? I'm a little confused!

I'm not one of the "medical people," but someone that my husband and I know has pulmonary hypertension. I'm not a doctor, but from what I understand there is a specific "blood vessel" affected, the pulmonary artery (the one from the heart to the lungs). The pressure in the artery rises above normal levels (due to constriction? I'm not sure about this) and becomes life threatening (I think it leads to right heart failure). A lot worse than "regular" hypertension, because this person is under constant medical care. She can't walk up stairs or what not without her husband worrying about her.

Her husband and mine compared notes--I feel "lucky" that my essential hypertension isn't as bad as her pulmonary hypertension, but feel extremely bad for her and her husband. My meds regulate mine, hers apparently is very hard to keep under control and docs work at keeping her alive.

Norlisa (36), essential hypertension diagnosed before pregnancy, successfully treated with atenolol, NO preeclampsia antepartum. (post-partum preeclampsia)
