Very interesting, but I"m still on the fence about the low dose aspirin, after all my pre-pregnancy testing was done ~ it was not a recommendation from my peri.

All I can say is that I have taken 81mg of Aspirin along with my BP meds and heparin shots for both of my last two pregnancies and had a healthy girl in 2003 and appear to be on track to a first ever full term pregnancy with this BOY! Both pregnancies have been PE free as far as all testing has been concerned. I cannot separate out and tell you what part of what I am doing that is making the difference but it has my Peri baffled yet pleased to see me doing so well.

TB,
Is the 81mg a "baby aspirin"?

81 mg is considered low dose or "baby aspirin" by US standards. I believe in Europe, they make a dose that is actually 75mg. It's not full strength aspirin. I am not sure they really call it "baby aspirin" anymore because of the Reyes Syndrome scare as to not give any child aspirin for a fever. I remember I used to take St. Joseph's children's aspirin but I don't think they make that orange flavored chewable anymore. If you look up health studies regarding heart health, they talk about the "baby aspirin" advantages.

My last pg ended @ 24 weeks with severe pre-e. This time I've taken 81 mg baby aspirin & Lovenox shots (low molecular weight heparin) since day one of pg, and I'm now at 31 weeks.

Regarding the aspirin, I was told that there was little risk so I should just take it.

Lisa,

I too lost a baby at 24 wks and turned around to make it this far to 35 wks 1 day. I will keep you in my thoughts!

Yep, low dose aspirin was the only difference in care from a pregnancy that ended in the loss of my son at 26 weeks, to one where I made it to 30 weeks and brought my baby home. I was more than happy to take it this time around - it may not have helped, but it didn't hurt.

Yes the 75mg dose is easily obtained in the UK. Over the counter, as it is used for many things. Indeed, my father takes one a day for his heart. I am a strong believer in its benifits. Even tho I had PE 3 times, I do believe by taking low dose aspirin in the 2nd and 3rd it delayed the onset.
