Here's to another month of TTC....

My body had been giving me some signals that af was definitely on its way. I wanted to be sure, so I took a pt this morning. Needless to say, it was ---negative. [}:)] This will be our 3rd month of ttc. I’m really getting impatient. I’m going to start charting and taking my temp with this new cycle. Does anyone know if there’s a special thermometer that is needed for the basal body temps? If so, can it be purchased at any pharmacy?

You can get a BTT at any pharmacy. usually they are purple and are clearly marked..

I say it's not over until AF sings. Your negative COULD turn into a positive. Either way, good luck!

Can someone tell me the difference between a BBT thermometer and a regular thermometer? When I first started TTC I couldn't find one anywhere, and the pharmacist said a regular thermometer would do, so that's what I've been using. What exactly does a BBT thermometer do?

Carol, seems like I remember that the BBTs record temps to the hundreth degree (is that right?) so instead of reading 98.6 you'd read 98.64. I think. It's been a while [:p]

Hi Carol - I just pulled out my basal thermometer. The basal thermometer only has temperatures listed from 96 to 100 degrees, inclusive, and is very clearly marked to the tenths (in between each whole number). It's very easy to read the temperature to the tenths, like 96.7, and if you want to be daring (like Laura says), you could possibly estimate and say 96.78. I can't find my regular thermometer right now, but from what I remember I think that a regular thermometer's temperature range is a little higher (goes up to 106, maybe?), also in increments to the tenths. But a basal thermometer is so clearly marked that you can read to the tenths more easily. Hope that this helps.

Sorry Lany ~ You never know, but if not, best of luck next month!!!! The BBT is also more sensitive I think too in getting the exact decimal.

I have started charting this month and it is making me feel more proactive in the whole process. I also feel like it would be good information for the doctor if we have trouble getting pregnant or another mc.

Thank you ladies so much. I appreciate all of the words of encouragement. It is so easy to stay optimistic with such a fantastic support group. I love this forum! I’m going tonight to buy an OPK, a BBT, and more PTs! Am I obsessed or what? [:p] I’ll let you ladies know what type of bargain I find.
