How often?

I have a very basic question: let me start with what will most likely be tmi!!

I say that i have been trying now for a good six months. by trying, i mean that i have been off b. control and hoping for +++ on a hpt.......so far nothing but disappointment. but when i think about these six months.. i have not been stringently trying. i am not sure when i ovulate. my cycles are not totally regular as far as same number of days between. i try to get in a couple of times (you know what i mean) when i think i am o ing. but have i really been "trying" hard enough?

How often do you guys try each cycle? i know a good rule of thumb is every other day but that hasn't always worked for us. i have wanted the attitude that i will trust God and He knows best for us. I TRULY believe that but am wondering......do i need to do something more?

enough ranting

Hi AliMarie,
You must be getting frustrated! Since you're not quite sure when you're ovulating, and it sounds like you're ready to get on with this, might you consider charting your basal body temperature each morning? This will give you insight to how your body is working. The thermometer costs around $10 I think, and you can chart your temperatures for free on a website called, "Fertility Friend". (You can also pay a little for extra interpretation help from them, but that isn't necessary).

Also, a good read for more understanding is "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. Finally, a more costly option is to purchase some Ovulation Predictor Test sticks.

Good luck to you.

I agree with Sandy. Just reading fertility friend has been great for me. OPK have always worked for me, they have instructions with them, but with irregular cycles sometimes it is hard. I think they are worth the investment.

Best of luck.

Also wanted to add - it took just once BD on a + OPK day with DS and with my angel, with DD we did everyday for a week around O time. I have heard every other day too though.

AliMarie,
If you can keep up with charting--do it. It's the best way to know if you are ovulating or not--although it only lets you know after you have ovulated. I haven't been very good at keeping up with my temps. I'll try it again this month. OPK's will let you know BEFORE you ovulate--they'll cost about $25-35 a pack (5-7 days worth) When I think I'm o'ing we have sex every other day for about 5-6 days. Hasn't worked so far, but I've heard that suggestion somewhere. TCOYF is a good book. I haven't bought it, but go to Barnes and NObles and read it sometimes.

bEst wishes to you!

Hi AliMarie - When my husband and I tried to conceive, my GYN at the time told me to have sex every other day. We did for the longest time, and to make a long story short, we ended up doing IVF and ICSI.

I'm with the others, I've heard that TCOYF is a good resource, but haven't read it myself.

Best of luck to you as you ttc--hope that you get the "+" response that you desire!

Hugs,
Norlisa

I have never heard of the every other day idea...we go 2x a day for two weeks around O, other than that its probably 1x a day..lol I have excessively long cycles(40 days) so we have lots of time to "practice."

When we tried for Indigo, we bought the TCOYF book first, read the whole thing in a day! it is an amazing book that is easy to read and packed with great information for your entire lifetime. We got pg on the first try after reading that book and started charting with BBT and using an OPK.

Good luck!

Elizabeth

DH and I "tried" every day for the week I thought I O'd and then every other day for the next week. I thought that was exhausting...! You go Elizabeth!

whoa,
first off....elizabeth, i know your dh is thrilled to have you as a wife. my dh thankfully doesn't have that drive as i do not either!

ok, you guys keep mentioning that book and i just might have to look into it. i have always thought that everyday depleted the sperm reserve. guess not! you guys are proof of that.

thanks again!

AliMarie,

The book really is great, I was surprised at how much inof I got from it.

I've read that everyday is not recommened if sperm count is marginal or low as it can take a while to build back up reserves.
