Pre-pregnancy Risk Factors Study (New England Area)

This research study is recruiting women who are healthy, 18 to 42 years of age, have regular menstrual cycles, and are not using hormonal contraception. Eligible women need to have a history of preeclampsia, or a family history of the condition, and be thinking about becoming pregnant. Recruitment is restricted to the Northeast Region of the United States. I do want to clarify that you do not have to live in the Northeast region of the US to participate, however you would need to travel to Vermont before you become pregnant. We do pay/reimburse reasonable travel expenses.

We will be looking for study participants through early 2014, so please contact us if you are considering conceiving in that time frame.

Several women have asked me about fertility treatments, so I also want to clarify that it is okay to participate if you do not have regular cycles but are consulting with your doctor to help you conceive.

We are recruiting healthy women who wish to conceive for a study on preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a disease of pregnancy, associated with high blood pressure and protein in the urine in pregnant women. It can be dangerous to both mother and baby. In this study, we will be looking at the way differences in body function can contribute to the development of preeclampsia.
You may be eligible if you are a woman between the ages of 18 and 42, plan to conceive in the next year, and
• Have never had a child before or
• Have had preeclampsia in the past or
• Have Type 1 diabetes or
• Have a personal or family history of hypertension or preeclampsia
We will provide you with ovulation detection kits to aid timing your conception. Financial compensation of up to $375 is provided. If you are interested in participating, or would like to know more, please call (802) 656-0309 or email carole.mcbride@uvm.edu.
