I was wondering how many of you ladies actually have been diagnosed. I was tested, but since reading posts on fertility friend and reading TCOYF I have noticed I have quite a few of the symptoms. Is it possible a test came back ok when it wasn't...or am I just being paranoid????? Really would appreciate any advice.

HI tina!
I have hypothyroidism, was diagnosed just before getting pg back in jan 2003. I have heard from many areas of the medical community that there are several different "normal" ranges depending on the lab you go to. It is mostly diagnosed through actual symptoms when you see an endocrinologist, but I wouldn't bet on it from your general practictioner. even while I am medicated right now, I still have a lot of sypmtoms like the fatigue, hair loss, inability to lose wt, headaches...etc etc. I am seeing an reproductive endocrinologist, since I also have long cyles and very late ovulation, long painful periods...ugh..other issues that come from hypothyroidism.

see if your general doc can send you to an endocrinologist to be fully diagnosed, and let them know the symptoms you have because it could still be something else.

I have also heard that different labs have different "normal" ranges. I was not diagnosed until my TSH was 7.9. I actually had no symptoms at that level either. I was just diagnosed with routine blood work. But my endocrinologist suspects I have been hypothyroid for many, many years and just never diagnosed. She said that while most doctors see anything under 4 or 5 as normal, she uses 2.5 as her cutoff. She medicates me to 2.5 or less. I didn't even want to be medicated since I didn't have symptoms, but she says damage could be done even if I wasn't noticing symptoms. Definitely ask to know the actual TSH level. If it is over 2.5, I would definitely recommend seeing an endo.

Good luck!
