The word has been passed and yes I need Heprin shots while I am pg. JOY [:(!]. And I will need them as soon as I get a positive test back and not when there is a visable heart beat a 6 to 8 weeks. Forgot to ask if I should stay on the baby asprin while taking the shots...DOH. So we will do our first bd next week?! Well the first one that counts anyhow [;)]. Part of me is ready to go and the other can wait a few more weeks. So either way I am cool.

Susan,

I'm not sure of what heprin shots are, but since it sounds bad, sorry you have to take them. Like T says, hope you enjoy doing the baby dance. I pray that this is your month. Good luck, and Godspeed!

Ok I need to take the shots because we took the thrombophilias test to see if there were any other complication that we could expect during pg other then cronic hypertenion. Turns out I have low level Protien S. This is something that I was born with and can't be corrected. So while my body in under stress ie pg. or dehydrated or sugery or something like that I could develop a low level clot. This would be bad because they can kill you. So to prevent to possibility of something like that happening I need the heprin to "thin" my blood. (I have a feeling that this is similar to what baby asprin does for most folks. It helps keep your plateletts slippers so they don't clump together and make clotting issues) I also heard from my OBGYN that the shots could be independently related to my platletts dropping if I were to get pre-e. So in short this could help me carry longer

Other uses for heprin are...

When you are about to go into surgery and when you come out it is standard procedure in some hospital to administer the shots to prevent you from clotting on the table.

Also when they draw blood from you heprin is placed in some viales (sp?) to prevent the blood from clotting in the tube.

Susan,

While I'm sorry that you have to do the shots I'm glad that your doc is taking every precaution to help you have a healthy (and hopefully boring) pregnancy.

Good luck! Can't wait to hear that you have a +++.
