Newbie in Alabama

Just an introduction. I placed a newbie memo on a general forum, but believe we all need local connections. My daughter was admitted to the hospital yesterday after she passed out @ home and has severe PE. They placed her on a mag drip & steroids and as of today are reducing it slowly to see how she does. The symptoms have been ongoing for 2 months and she is now @ 31wks. We are in the waiting stages of early delivery as of this morning. I don't know if they actually let cases go home, but they have already tried BP meds/24 hr urine monitoring and she is still swollen with protein in urine and abnormal BP. We are new to this and don't know what to expect (Drs. don't like to panic anyone). Thanks for any info or encouragement. She is in **** hospital, but they have bought a house close to us in Talladega County. They live in Livingston (West AL)

I just emailed you. Welcome to the foundation and while we wish it was other than through a PE experience (worrying about your daughter), we hope that you and your entire family can receive the support and information you need during this time. I shall hold your daughter and your grandson in prayer and thought. My husband is a nursing assistant and was instantly a husband when we went through our various PE experiences. It's scary when you don't know what's going on and we found the more information you can gather on it helped to understand at least what all the tests mean and what's happening. Keep us informed!

welcome to the forums. I am so sorry to hear of your daughter's complications. The average time from dx of preeclampsia to delivery is two weeks. If she has been exhibiting symptoms for some weeks now, the chances are quite likely that she won't be going home until she's had the baby.

At 31 weeks, steroids are still helpful for babies' lung development, and if they haven't already been given, I would be asking a Dr about them asap.

Sue/Fiona - Thank you so much for the response, advise, prayers!! Truly a time a friendly quote! They did start steroids yesterday PM. We are now waiting on response re:bloodwork. She has gained 10# since last night w/a decrease in urine output, but on a note of blessings the baby is @ 3Lbs/6oz. The only other complication beyond my daughters condition is the spots found on the baby's kidneys 3mnths ago. They took her off Mag drip late this afternoon, but BP is going up again. So hard for a child that was never sick/no broken bones/and was a tiny 115# when blessed w/baby. Her husband is a nurse, but not as prepared as I know he wishes he was.

Welcome to the forum, although I'm sure we all wish you did not need to come here under these circumstances. You will learn a lot and get great support from these wonderful ladies. I'm sure your daughter is in wonderful hands, and the 3 pound mark for baby sounds encouraging.

I live in Northwest Florida, but live so close to Alabama (about an hour away) that I and another PF friend are part of this group. My daughter was born at a hospital in south alabama, and the staff members were my angels. I'm not sure where your daughter is, but there are wonderful hospitals in the state so I'm sure she is being well taken care of. Please feel free to email me.
