Sorry it has taken me all week to post...I still haven't recovered from the exciting, but exhausting weekend!
I would like to thank everyone who came out to support the SD walk and also to those who could not make the walk, but donated online. We had a glorious walk day in San Diego. The May gray weather reared it's ugly head for a straight week before the walk, but on Saturday the sun was out and it must have been 80 degrees before the walk was over!
We had 105 registered walkers and many more children and babies who walked with family and friends.
We had an overwhelming response of people who collected pledges that brought in over $3700 alone!!! Our big pledge winners were:
Autumn and Mitch Spears who flew from Washington to attend our walk and collected over $1,500! They received a $100 American Express gift card for their first place pledges. As a bonus, Mitch's place of employment will be matching any donations given by employees of Western Tile and Marble!
Rosalinda Salazar and Michael Sloan tied for second place at $600+ in pledges. They both received a $20 Daphne's Greek Cafe gift card.
I have done a rough estimation of our money totals and it appears that we will be donating over $8500 (this amount is after expenses) to the Foundation!
Alicia and I set goals to have 100 walkers and raise $10K for the Foundation, and while we came up short on our donation goal, the day exceeded both our expectations. This was an experience I will never forget and it was one of the best days of my life, despite my continued crying while trying to run the event (pregnancy hormones are not the best for this kind of event!).
Alicia and I are working on getting pictures together and will soon post links for a photo montage and to view all the pictures! We have an enormous amount of pictures to sort through, so this process is taking us a while to complete.
There will definitely be a 2009 San Diego WAT and both Alicia and I will be spear heading the event once again (unless unforeseen forces keep us away). We look forward to seeing all of you again and having new volunteers on our 2009 team.
Thank you, Alicia, for being my co-chair for the walk and you will forever be my PE Sister!
Becky
