I know this is an old thread, but if anybody revisits it now (2008), please email me directly. We don't have an organized group in that area, but we do have need for volunteers immediately. Our annual gala event is being held in Wash, DC on 9/20/08 and I could use all the local help I can get!
Welcome to the boards. Hopefully someone from your area will be along to post. In the meantime, please feel free to post in our Ask the Experienced area where you will be greeted by others from all over the country (and other countries too).

I have family and friends in Maryland (near DC) who you could mostly likely involve in a Walk, if you'd like to organize one. Even a small Friends & Family walk is doable with very little effort. Kara can get you the details, but it's a nice way to dip a toe in the cause, raise some local awareness and much needed money for the PF. I'm pretty certain we don't have one yet in that area.
I would love to get involved in the MD area as well. I live in Baltimore. I don't see a wholelot of activity on this page though. Is there another area that MD people can be in contact with each other and possible brainstorm ideas to help?
