I had a consult with Maternal/Fetal medicine at W&I as well. Tongue in cheek, they said maybe this time I would have a girl (I've had two boys previously, both with PIH/PE complications) and I wouldn't have any of these issues.. Well, I'm having a girl, so I'm holding them to it. So far, my bloodpressure has been fabulous - lower than in the previous pregnancies. And, I also haven't had auto-immune hives which plagued me the first two times. I'm hopeful.
I've also seen the division of internal medicine at Women & Infants. OB Medicine, it's called, specializes more in the mom's health than the baby's health, but it's nice to have them on board. If I got sick with PE, I think Maternal/Fetal Medicine would be involved, but in the meantime, I am being followed by OB Medicine as well as my regular OB. If you have any underlying conditions that might predispose you to PE, OB Medicine is definitely worth looking into.
Good luck this time around! With conception and beyond.

Hi,
My son jack was delivered my emergency c-section at Women and Infants on Jan 26th due to preeclampsia and a placental abruption. I live in RI, Glocester to be exact. I am contemplating getting pregnant again and I actually just had a consult with the Maternal and Fetal medicine specialists at Women & Infants today, they said I have a 50/50 chance of getting it again. I am going for it, wish me luck. [:)]

I'm not from RI, but my son was delivered at Women & Infants this past November. I was transported by ambulance there from a hospital in Attleboro, MA. I had undetected PIH and preclampsia. By the time my blood pressure got high enough for them to worry my son had stopped growing for weeks. He was delivered by emergency c-section at 30 weeks only weighing 1lb 11.5 oz. He's doing well now, but it was by far the scariest time of my life.

You are pretty close to me then. I am sorry that not that many ppl from RI are on the forum. I am working on brochure distribution for CT and if you would like to get involved you can always help with that. We have an upcoming group coordinators conference call. Feel free to email me at tkstevens@sbcglobal.net if you would like.

Hi. Well, you're not in RI, but close! I'm in southern RI, just about a half hour away from Mystic (I go to the aquarium all the time with my two preschooler).
I grew up in Western CT, near the NY border, so I'm probably more a Connecticut-er than a Rhode Islander anyway.

Does no one in RI get PE? Or not know they have it? Or just not want to admit it? [:)]
OK, we're a small state, but pretty densely populated. There have to be SOME others, right?
