How long can you be sick with HELLP?

I have never received a positive diagnosis of HELLP, but from what I've read and from what my doctor sort of insinuated they thought happened, I think that's what I had. I have a visit with a specialist group in Denver (UofColorado Hosp) tomorrow and I'll learn more.

My story in a nutshell:

Had an unexplained very severe placental abruption at 15 weeks which baby boy and I both survived. He hung on till about 26 weeks, and I started feeling ill. I happened to have a Dr's visit that day and I thought "Well, I've never had high BP in my life, But I think that's what's wrong with me" I felt strange and sort of like my blood was "rushing" more quickly and I couldn't breathe comfortably. Felt like I kept trying to take bigger and bigger breaths to get enough oxygen.

Anyway, sure enough, elevated BP (at this point only in the area of 120/95 as my illness progressed I was pushing 185/115) and protien in my urine...the whole deal. Doctor sent me home w/equipment for 24 hour urine test. But by the next evening, I took myself to the ER because I still just "didn't feel good"

My sickness progressed quickly and two days later my little boy went into severe distress. He was delivered by csection and didn't make it.

I stayed sick though. They kept panicking and couldn't really figure out what was wrong with me (I always thought PE was pretty cut and dry???) and there were arguments that I most assuredly must have an autoimmune disease of some kind. So, they tested and tested...nothing came back positive. Some of my blood counts apparently just didn't add up to PE and HELLP. BUT, I did have liver pain. Thank God for morphine and percocet!!!

So, I am about 7 weeks post partum and FINALLY dont' feel like I am still struggling with this. It took my BP about 4 weeks to fall to more "normal" levels (and even now they are still elevated for my usual and my doctor is still concerned), up till a week ago, I would still have days where I would drink and drink and drink water and not urinate much at all...till the next day. And I even had one particular bad evening where I had that HORRIBLE HIDEOUS liver pain which was only eased up by taking one of the percocet which I still had left from surgery, or I would have ended up back at the ER.

Can anyone sympathize with such a lingering illness, and was this probably HELLP? My dr said I had mild signs of it, but nothing definite (ie. my liver enzymes raised some. I think she said around 30???)

Thank you for reading this far! So much for a nutshell. You just can't tell these things in short form and still have it make sense.
